Mr. McDowall, father of the toor

of-William Douglas McDowall. who
came to this country from Scotland in
1820 and lived here practically all of
his life until his death in 1879. Wil
liam Douglas McDowall was a large
merchant and at one time was In part
nership with Charles J. Shannon and
be served one term as mayor of Cam
den. His wife was Susan Wither
spoon. daughter of Rev. John Wither
spoon, pastor of the Presbyterian
church here. She died in 1857.

Camden girl, who is now a fre.^hmau

and is a graduate of the Camden High
school. She was soprano soloist in
the Grace Episcopal church choir and
her exquisite voice has been heard at
many patriotic gatherings.,

Public Relations headquarters was
maintained at the Kirkwood hotel
here, one of the features of the public
relations program was a radio broad
cast daily. The broadcast program

audition expert. Miss Salmond sang
for this individual, who declared her
