a week after completing advance

Mrs. D. L. Oumprecbt (Dorothy Mar
shall) came up from Moultrie, Oa.,
where she is staying with her bus-
band, who is with the Air corps at
St>cnce Field. ^

Cpl. B. C. Williams, who has been
visiting his mother, Mrs. Maud 'Wil
liams. left for Camp LeJenne, N. C.,
early in the week and will leave for
overseas within a few weeks.
It will be the third -oterseas trip
for thia United States Marine, who
spent IS months in the South ^olfic
and It months in Italy, Sicily and
North Africa.
CpL Williams does not believe that
the war will end this year, because
he says, **Those Germans will fi^t
fanatically when they are poshed back
on the soil of their fatherland. I ifon’t
think there is any question bat what
the advance of the Allies will be
steady, bat It Is not going to be as
large as it was in crossing France.”

The John D. Kennedy chapter. U,;
D. €., met with Mrs. Jim Cureton and
Mrs. George Taylor at the home of
the former Oct. I. After prayer for

officers and chairmen, the historian,
Mrs. Chewnlng. announced the sub
ject for the program, “Thn Life of
Miss Mary Poppenheim of Charleston,
one of the founders of the U. D. C.
in South Carolina and many present
First Sgt. Vernon H. Galloway,
whose family resides on route 3, Cam
den, is serving with the 697th Field
Artillery Battalion of the Fifth Army
in Italy.
The 97th Field Artillery Battalion
traces its ancestry to the Revolution
ary war. It was activated in June,
1940, from Battery D of the S6th
Field Artillery regiment, a direct de
scendant of the Alexander Hamilton
Battery of the New York Provincial
that was organized In January. 1776.
The Battalion left the United States
on Christmas eve, 1948, and a monttf
later was en the Casslno front.
