day afternoon. Sept. 27, at the First
Episcopal church in Sumter. Rev. J.
B. Walker offleiated. using the double

quietly in a small crowded office
with a telephone at his elbow. He
has about a dosen assistants. Hanging

expose their' memories to the interro
gation of a small corps of trained in

bails out over enemy territory and is

A graduate of Virginia Military In
stitute, Richardson went on active
duty in March. 1942. He served first
with the Eighth Air Force, then in a
liaison capacity between the Eighth
and 16th and finally with the 16th
alone. He took over his present du
ties last April.
Recounting some of his adventures,
he told of getting the former prisonera
of Bulgaria from Turkey to Cairo.
“I told those guys to line up on
the station platform at Aleppo,” he
related, hls face a wide smile, "and
then I went off to see some British
.officers, They were pointing at my
men "and I 'wondered whnt the devil
had happened. I looked around' and
there was a line—342 men long and
straight as a ruler. I nearly fainted.
Nothing like that had ever happened
before in the Air Force.”
