tion hereof.
BE IT ORDAINED by the Mayor
and Councllmen, In Council assembled
and by authority of the same. ^
That^ In acordance with the recom
mendations of the Board of Health'
of Camden. 8. C., and In order to pre-
vent the spread of typhus, an endemic
disease which is attributed to the
large number of rats which now infest
certain areas and places within the
City of Camden;
—r; It Is hereby provided and re«
quired that all business bouses, ware
houses where food, is stored, restau
rants, hotels and other places where
food is served, all slaughter houses
under supervision of Board of Health,
and all public structures in which feed
stuffs may be stored, now erected', or
to be erected, be k'ept and maintained
In a fat-free condition and that the
said structures be rat-proof in order
to prevent the entry of rata into and
upon said premises.
2. That all garbage, decaying or
Injurious vegetables, or other similar
substances, be dumped or stored in
metal containers, with metal covers,
or other containers that are rat-proof.
3. That from and after ths passage
of this Ordinance, .It shall be a mis
demeanor for any person, whether

News was received here Tuesday
from the war department that Clif
ford Robinson was killed In action on
August 2 in France. Clifford was the
oldest son of Clyde Robinson and the
owner or tenant, to create or allow _ late Mrs. Docia McLean Robinson, and
‘had been In service for some time. He
Is survived by his father and aeveral
sisters and brothers.
Mrs. 8. L. McLaughlin received a
letter from her son, Leroy, last week
that he had reached Prance and waa
well. The McLaughlins have another
son, Delma. in Prance.
J. B. McCoy had the misfortune to
have his tobacco barn full of his best
tobacco destroyed by fire recently.
The Midway school Is to open on
Sept. 11.

'shops and offices at Hamlet in a pro-
gram of consolidation. Hamlet city
compliance with this ordinance, and
shall in the course of such work or
repair interfere with such rat-proof or
rat-free condition of auch building, to
forthwith restore, such building upon
which such work or repair has been
done, to its former rat-proof or rat-
free condition. •
4. That each day that any person,
firm or corporation, shall violate any
of the provisions of this Ordinance
ahall constitute a seperate offense.
7. That any person, firm or cor
poration krbo sh^l violate the twms
of this Ordinance, or any of the pro
visions herein, shall be deemed guilty
of a dlsdemeanor and, upon convic
tion, therefor before the Recorder, be
subject to a fine not exceeding One
Hundred ($100.00) Dollars, or impris
onment for not more than thirty (80)
days.

railroad unions who have homes In
Hamlet have organised a form of pro-
,'test group against the action of the
railroad.
News of the abolishment of the
North Carolina division point became
current li^te last week and was con
firmed by the Norfolk office of the
Seaboard. It la proposed to consoli-
date the operatlona bf the Hamlet or
North Carolina division with divisions
of the Seaboard in Virginia, Sooth
Carolina and Oeorgia.
No mention has been made as to
what will happen to the employees'on
train and engine crews but it is be
lieved they will be transferred to the
other dlvl8i<His.
In the elimination of the division
headquarters from Hamlet the plan
Outlined officially by the Seaboard
headquarters at Norfolk, contemplates
the transfer of the offices of sup-
ion auditor, master mechanic and the
dispatchers group. > An assistant sup
erintendent would handle what re-
mftined of the’ division activities at
Hamlet.
