Norfolk, Va., arrived a few days ago
for a visit to their parents, Mr. and

Mrs. Olin B. Watkins. Mrs. A. B.
Watkins and Mrs. Alice Trimnal spent
a few days at Yemassee and Paris
Island visiting Olin Watkins, who is
stationed there.
Miss Sarah Davis of Columbia,
■pent the week-end at her home
here.
Mrs. A. A. West accompanied her
son, Clyde West and family to Myrtle
Beach for the week-end. They were
guests of Mrs. West’s son, Leo West,
and family.
News was received a few days ago
that Lt. L. L. West, Jr., had received
his wings In the Army Air corps, in
Victoria, Texas. Lt. West is the
oldest son of Mr. and Mrs. L. L. West.
News has been received from the
war department by Mm. O. L. Wise
Newberry, that her son. Tech. ggt.
David Heber Wise, was killed in ac
tion in’France July 21.
Sergeant Wise was with an infantry
division and had been in England
several montiis. Since June IS he has
been in France. He enlisted in the
array in October, lf4t, receiving hfs
training at Camp Atterbury, Ind., and
Camp Breckenridge, Ky,
Prior to entering the service, 8gt.
Wise was principal of the Bethcme
Grammar school and had previonsly
taught in Anderson county. He is a
jcraduate of the Bush River High
school and Newberry college. He was
highly esteemed by all who knew him.
Heber, as he was better known, was
the son of Mrs. Ida' Fulmer Wise, Br.
In addition to his mother he is sur
vived by a twin brother, Pfc, Charles
E. Wise, air corps, Greensboro, N. C.;
Sgt. G. L. Wise, Jr., Camp Atterbury,
Ind.: G. Herman, J. Harvey and Ray
’A. Wise, Newberry; Mrs. W, V. Pugh
and Mrs. E. O. Shealy, Prosperity;
Mrs. J. R. Lathan, Burlington, N. C.;
Mri. J. A. Keialer, Gilbert, and Mrs.
John F. Fulmer, 'formerly of Char-
lotteeville, Va.,- bttt now of NeWberry-
He was a member of St. James
Lutheran church, near Jalaps, where
memorial services were held on Sun
day afternoon, Aug. 13.

At Smyrna Sunday
Three services are scheduled to be
held next Sunday at Smyrna Metho
dist church on the West Kershaw cir
cuit, with the Rev.^ohn L. Sandlin
of Heath Springs, preaching at all
services. The first will be held at
12 noon, followed by dinner on the
grounds, All members, former mem
bers and friends of the church are
invited • to attend, and all who will
are asked to bring baskets. Afternoon
services will follow the' dinner hour.
The closing,services of the day will
be at 8:80 p. m., which will bring to
a close the revival meeting now in

side in Camden. A slater, Mrs. Betty
Gordon, is also a survivor, A brother-
in-law, Pete Gordon, ^ now in Eng
