VOTERS OF KERSHAW COUNTY:
I wamt to diacusa with you briefly some oi the legislatioti in which 1 hnd an important port in its
poaeafo, also to advise you oa to some of the legislation I objected to and which I fought.
Let mo outline to you some of the measures with which I was identified. Firat-—I would like to call
your attention to the great reductitm in taxes made possible hy legislation which 1 supported and Yotod
for. This legislation has resulted in a saving to the tax P«y«r uf Kordiaw Coonty of 23.77 per cent 4xr the
total sum of approximately $59,771.00. This legblation made possible the greatest redaction in taxes in
quite a number of years, and 1 smtidpate a furflier reduction of-quite g good amount in 1945.
Now let us look at our public schools. We extended the state aid period of 8 months to 9 months,
which results in a saving to the tax payers of thu county in the amount of $16,792.00.
What about transportation of pupils to school? Formerly the state paid $16,792.00 toward the cost
of trsmH>orting pupils by bus from their homes to the schools. Today, the state is paying $22,387.00, which
is a considerable saving to the tax payers and is a difference of $5,595.00 in amount of state aid received.
The county received os its portion of state income tax $21,855.66 for the year 1943 and 1944, a bill sup
ported smd voted for by mo. ~
For tho pupils themselves, what have we done? It is not necessary for me to tell jrou that the hungry
child or the child hurried away from home in the early morning with' little breakfast, is at beat on
indifferent child. Our legblation took steps to relieve that situatioa hy providing lunches.
It b well known fliat the teodher nudies the school. A good teacher mesms a good school. And whaf
have we done to enable the teacher to meet the advancing cost of living? We provided Urn salary of Bock
and every school teacher in the public sdwols of the states who qualifies and receives state aid, shall ba.
incroased 15 p«r cent per month. And thb year added $10.00 per mootb to salaries being paid, which wot
reduced by free conference committee to $6.00.
TO THE CITIZENS OF DeKAI^
TOWNSHIP:
As a candidate for Magistrate, I would
like to meet each of you and ask your kind
consideration, but my physical condition
and the restricted gasoline situation
makes it almost impossible. I am in this
race of my own accord and without politi
cal ties or obligations to anyone, and am
running upon the merits of my character,
business ability, and qualifications for
the office, and this I ask you to investi
gate. I will give you reasonable and reg
ular office hours, and pledge to you faith
ful, honest and impartial and courteous
service, and will handle the office in an
efficient and businesslike manner.
In 1943 we found the stele treasury with a surplus due lorgriy to wartime revenue, and instead of
di^zersing these funds recklessly, we did what the business man always doe»-~p^ off old-debts that hod

000.00 to pay off bonds of the state and state-owned institutions. In a word, we placed South

What have we done for the old? Fer those in the twilight of life, whose sun is
