The matron of honor was Mrs. Burchell Moore of Charleston, a sister of the brjde, who wore a gown of silver blue taffeta and carried pink roses and blue delphen- liuDis. Mrs. C. C. Whitaker, mother of the bride, was gowned in white lace trith a corsage of gardeniaa. Throughout the period of the service eoft music was played by Mrs. P. N. McCorkle on the piano and Mayor P. N. McCorkle on the violin. They also played the wedding marches. Mrs. Warren Bucbolts sang two solo numbers, and was accompanied with piano and violin by Mr. and Mrs. Mc Corkle. The bride’s bouquet, of white roses and lilies of the valley, so coveted by the young girls, was tossed from the atalrcaae after the ceremony and fell into the outstretched arms of Miss “Sis” Brook of Columbia. Following the ceremony a reception was held, during which the young couple were*toasted from the bounte ous punch bowls which were attrac tively arranged In each corner of the room. The bride later cut the bridal cake. Lieut. Knight and his bride escaped from the Inn admist a shower of rice and confetti, and left for an unan nounced d^tlnatlon. Mayre while here to attend the Whltaker-Knight wedding. First Lt. H. T. Lovette, Jr., has re turned to Camp Pickett, Va., after spending a few days with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. 'T. Lovette, Sr. Mrs. El L. Williams, of New York, who is making her home here at the Rice Apartments, is visiting friends in Charlotte, N. C., for a few days. Mrs. W. P. Buckley, who has been spending the past several weeks ia New York and at Sharon, Conn., re-' turned to her winter home here Wed nesday. Mr. Francis Marion, of Columbia and York, and Miss Betty Marshall, of Columbia, were dinner guests of Mrs. Alice C. Mayre before attending the Whitaker-Knight wedding. Pvt. Gary Bradley, in the Service Command of the U. S. Army, station ed at Fort McPherson, has returned after spending a 20-day furlough with his father, Mr. T. A. Bradley and Mrs. Bradl^ty. Pfc. Drennan H. Brown, who Is at tending Southern Dental College, at Atlanta, Ga., is spending his furlough at home with Dr. and Mrs. A. W Humphries. Mrs. Willard A. Qoodale Wednesday af ternoon, of last week, at her home on Broad streei. High score prises were won by Mrs. T. Lee Little and Mrs. Ralph Stevenson. Mrs. Frank Gruver. of Asheville. N. C.. and Mrs. Alfred McLeod were visitors. After cards, a delicious sweet course was served. Mrs. Alice Maryea and Miss Carolina Richardson entertained at a /upper party for the bride. C. ^’hlt- aker, Jr. GRADUATION DANCE FOR CADETS AT QLUB Following a bapquet Thursday night of last week at the Southern Aviation school a graduation dance was held at the Cadet club tor the members of Class 44-H. ’The music for the oc- "casioo was furnished by Sgt. Marino and his orchestra, of Shaw FMeld, and several vocal numbers were rendered by Mrs. John W. Bucholts. Mrs. An nie Boykin, Cadet club hostess, was assisted in entertaining and serving by Mrs. Douglass. Montgomery, Mrs. Bill Sbuttleworth and .Miss Lillian Yates. PARTY AT OFFICER'S CLUB The Officer’s Club, located in the Court Inn, was the scene of a delight ful cocktail party given by the offic er’s of thp €4th AAFFTD and their wives, on Friday evening at eight o'clock. The party was given in hon or of. the new Commanding Officer at Southern Aviation Schooj,, Capt. Bernen. Bingo .was played during the evening. Captain Joseph R. Riley and Lt. Wade C. Lewis were in charge of the program. BINGO PARTY AND DANCE AT CENTER SATURDAY NIGHT A bingo party and dance will feature the Saturday evbnlng program at the Senrioe Center on Rutledge street. Ac cording to announcement of the pro gram committee, of which Mrs. H. Granger Gaither Is chairman. The bingo party will start at 8 o’clock sharp and It is expected danc ing will begin about 9 p. m. The party will continue until 11: SO. Prizes will be given at bingo games. Cadets of the Aviation school, to gether with service men who are in the city, will be present at the bingo party and dance. Camden girls will be out to provide partners tor the guests of honor. Sr. She was educated in the Camden public schools and the University of South Carolina, being affiliated with the Kappa Delta sorority st the latter place. Lt. John William Knight of the U. 8. Air corps, was bom in San Diego, Calif., 26 years ago. He received his edneation at St Jose State college at San Jose. Calif. He entered the array in 1941 and served ten months in the infantry in Alaska. He completed bis aviation-cadet training in the West Coast command.—Ha rocaivad- bis wings at Yuma, Arizona, Nov. 3. 1943. At present he is slat is sfationed at Morris Field, Charlotte. N. Mrs. Varner is the youngest daugh ter of her parents, and she received her education at Charlotte Thompson High school and Wintbrop*college. For the past year she 'has been employed with the South Carolina tax commis sion, , Mr. Varner Is the son of Mr. and Mrs. S. L. Varner of Spartanburg.
