About Old Age Md
Mrs. Alms B. Balmond, director of
the Kershaw County department of
Public Welfare, calls attention to a
misunderstanding frequently met with |
regarding federal funds for old age as
sistance and other types of public aid.
An impression seems to be preral-|
ent that the Federal Government, in
matching State appropriations for
these purposes, merely returns to the
State a part of the money collected
from employers and employees in the
State as social security taxes. Thtoj
to incorrect, Mrs. Salmond 'explains,
since the Fsderal law requirea that]
the full amount of these taxes, includ
ing penalties and interest, be paid I

from this fund only to the employees
