shaw County Council of Defense, la
issuing a, strong appeal to the house
wives of the city and county and also
till gfocert and meet dealers to speed
up the collection of waste table fats.
•‘Our government is calling on us
to do everything In our power to
save snd collect waste table fSts,
said Mr.-Bonsai.
“These fats are necessary in the
manufacture of the miracle working
sulpha dtugs and glycerine for annnu-
pition, as well as other items so
necessary for the defense effort.
‘‘As a patriotic gesture Frank Sha

fat from the meat markets oC the
town of Camden and take It to Co
lumbia.' The trip to Columbia will be
made twice monthly.

The Camden Food Shop opened thet
New Year by going on a cash andj
carry basis, and according to Manager
H. H. Maddox, the venture has been
greeted with general approbation by
his many customers.
The change to the cash and carry
program, identical with the system
prevailing in all of the leading chain
store organizations, was brought about
by conditions growing out of the war
situation.
Mr. Maddox stated that he has
maintained hia delivery system to the
best of his ability for a considerable
time since the outbreak of the war,
but faced with inability to secure worn
out equipment for delivery trucks. It
was necessary to make a drastic
change. 4'
The cash basis program is in line
with the policy of the United States
government to discourage and re
strict carrying charge accounts. Mr.
Maddox stated that on top of his
restriction, be and all other people
engaged in this line of business, have
to pay for practically all merchan
dise on delivery.
“We plan to pass on to our custom
ers, in reduced prices, the saving we
are effecting by the new change,”
said Mr. Maddox.
“So far the new plan is working
out well," he continued. “We have

The Flying Professors took another
nose-dive Tuesday night, due mainly
to a bad second period when they
were held scoreless, for their second
straight lo.ss In as many starts, this
time bowing to the Tfth Base Head
quarters and Air Base Squadron of
Shaw Field, In the handsome new
Shaw Field Recreation hall.
It was a pretty hot battle through
out the opening period of the game,
with the Shaw Field boys holding an
8-6 edge at the end of the first quart
er, but the Flying Profs scoring guns
were completely silenced In the sec
ond stanza as the home club roared
out front for a wide half-time lead,
