Ihrough-the ages God had been Ifeaking through the prophets, con- ^tly revealing Himself as a God Lf power, justice, holiness, truth and laercy. In different ways and at various [times (v. 1) He spoke through them, hit always there was a pointing for- nrd to the One who should come. Abraham was called ou^ to found fee nation (Gen. 12), and Jacob the limily or tribe (Gen. 49), in which He should come. He was to be a prophet like Moses (Deut. II) and of the kingly house of Da- Tid (II Sam. 7). All the offerings of Leviticus spoke of^His priestly Kprice. Isaiah saw Him as both the reigning and the suffering Messiah I (I|a. 53). ^ t All ^is was incomplete until He jcime; and when He did, He re- jeealed all the glory of (SodT He made the perfect and final sacrifice for sin, ind rat down (His work was fin- lished) at God’s right hand (the place [of power). Let us be clear about^ this: in [Christ God's revelation is perfect [ind complete. We need look for [iwthing more. The claims of those [fho appear with a “new light’’ or |»me mysterious hidden power are lio obviously untrue that we ought Inot to be' at all interested. But not only is Christ God’s final [Word, He is— n. God’s Best Word (Heb. 1:4-9). The prophets and their messages I thrill our souls and move us to [more earnest living. But the Christ ife as welTas OUT Re- I dfemer. The an|els are God’s messengers [-mighty and magnificent beings, su perior in their i^ay to man (Ps. •:5). The early church made too much of angels (as do some groups [today), but Prote.stantism of our day has made too little of them. They [are great and powerful beings who 1^‘ster on our behalf and who are honored in the loyal service they‘do |br God. _But .they stand he.side the, 1 of God, it becomes evident that holds a place of incomparable |l»ry and majesty.
