out of a total of 125 which burned In
the county. In fact, careleasness was
the greatest single cans® of fires
throughout the state. These Area

(Were damaged and, in some caaes,
destroyed entirely. That damaged
timber and pulpwood could have con

N. McCorkle, Sam Karesb and Lee
Mays gave interesting talks relative
to the appointment of wardieader. Dr.
J. P. Picket heads the Arorkers in
Ward 1, Rev. W. R. Gregg in Ward 2,
W. J. Brownlee in Ward 3, fi. E. Al
fred In Ward 4, Rev. J. W. Boykin to
Ward 5. and Joseph Brown in Ward
6. T. E. Hammons Is the leader to
the Kirkwood area and G.' B. Tillman

“Visits have been made in homes
where they were needed due to some
problem with children, and parents
have been offered guidance and help.
Necessary clothes were provided for
a little blind girl, making it possible
for her to attend school at Cedar
Springs. Another bad tuition paid
and clothes provided to attend tbe
Opportunity School at Greenwood.
Milk was,provided for a little boy of
eight with an arrested case'of tuber
culosis. Careful supervision was also
given to the condition in bis home.
Cloth^ were also provided in another
instance where children were being
ad mitred to an orpbanage.

In Great Cause For Humanity

War Qiest Drive
(Camden block leaders, under the di
rection of Mrs. Catoe Glover, have
been engaged In making a bohse to
house canvas in the past week to se
curing contributions to the War Chest
drive.
It ie hoped to have this work com
pleted by next Monday evening, al
though the deadline on this effort Is
November 5.
Mrs. Glover has expressed public
thanks to all the voluntiwrs of the
block leaders group who were anxlons
to aid in the Ration Book 4 issnance.
Mrs. Glpver states that she has ap
proximately, 70 block members in the
city, and of this' number. 40 volunteer
ed to aid to the ratioD program.'This,
she states, is. most gratifying.

nation to aid the fight for tuberculosis
prevention and control, Mrs. Glover
said. The Seal Sale here, moreover,

on its year round campaign against
the disease.

week in Camden, Kershaw county.
South Carolina,, and in the nation,
Americans have turned over the snead^
ing of some of their dollars to ^elr
hearts. in support of this' fact, they
are giving, as they in their logical
mind Intended to give to back their
heart's understanding of the mercy,
the relief and the pleasure that these
dollars bring.
And so for 4bat reason, the National
War Fund and Community Cbeet drive
BOW to progress Is headed toward-
complete auccess.

groups, have toured the city and
county and are finding that Camden'
and Kershaw county people are really
letting their hearts decide. Ihe pub
lic appeal has been featured by page
advertisements, the expense of which
have been borne by Camden bnsiaess
men. These business men have been
called upon frequenUy, but were al
ways willing to share the expense,
mid it is a great commentary npon
thair ptariotlsm that they have never
heaitated In making this generous ef
fort.

Jackson, had driven the Ford car he
had purloined from a parking area on
Broad street about fifteen feet when
a pleasant voice at his elbow drawled:
Move over buddy. I’ll do the driving
