Merritt and Dr. Marlon
Mathias, which took place at 5.30 on
the afternoon of July 13 In Washington
Street Methodist church. The
Rev. J. O. Smith, pastor, assisted by
Dr. C. F. Wlmberly, officiated.
Palms, white gladioli and white
lighted candles in candelabra effectively
decorated the church for the

Mrs. Roy Garrett, vocalist, furnished

Greenville, and Dr. John Holler, Sgt.

Mrs. T. R. Scott, eister of the bride
and matron of honor, wore a dress of
sky-blue lace and chiffon, and carried
an arm bouquet of pink roses and delphinium.

in marriage by her uncle, Hugh Edgar
Taylor, of Durham, N. C., was exquisite

slipper' satin with white lace yoke,
v-neck, long sleeves, fitted bodice and
full skirt extending into a graceful

A Waac Takes the Wheel
It used to be that one healthy* trained soldier spent his full time
driving this Army tiyck at a post in the United States. Now, he's on his
way to combat duty, and the truck is still performing its valuable function
because a member of the Women's Army Auxiliary Corps has taken over
for him. She was carefully trained at a WAAC Motor Transport School*
of bridal illusion fell from a coronet
of orauge blossoms, and sho carried
a showered bouquet of bride rosea
and bouvardia centered with an
orchid. The bride's only ornament
was a strand of pearls, the gift of the
bridegroom.
Dr. David Adcock was the best
man.
Mrs. H. H. Merritt, mother of the
bride, wore aqua Jersey and chiffon,
and an orchid corsage.
Mrs. Jj. W. Mathias, mother of the
bridegroom, wore bridal-pink chiffon,
and an orchid corsage.
After the ceremony the bride and
bridegroom left for their wedding trip
and upon their return to Columbia
they will make their home at 2610
Monroe street. For traveling the
bride wore navy-blue sheer with white
accessories, and an orchid corsage.
Both the bride and bridegroom aro
prominently connected in South Carolina.

Mrs. Mathias, who is charming and
attractive, is the daughter of Mrs.
I Henry Harrison Merritt of Columbia,
and the late Rev. Mr. Merritt, who
was for many years associated with
the Upper South Carolina conference
of the Methodist church. Her mother
is the former Ethel Taylor, daughter
of Mrs. H. W. Taylor and the late Mr.
Taylor of Lancaster. The bride attended
Lander college and completed
a commercial course there. At cpllege
she was president of her class
and the Commercial club and a member
of student council. Since moving
to Columbia from Camden with her
mother about six years ago, Mrs.
Mathias has made many friends here
and is president of the Polygon club,
business and professional girls' organization.
She now holds a position
with the South Carolina Electric and
Qas company in this city.
- Doctor Mathias Is the son of Mr.
and Mrs. L. W. Mathias of Charleston,
his mother being, before marriage,
May Thomas, of that city. He
was graduated from the College of
Charleston and the Medical College
of the State of South Carolina,
Charleston. The bridegroom interned
at Methodist hospital, Philadelphia,
Pa., and for the past three years he
has been practicing In Columbia. Doctor
Mathias is a member of thp Columbia
Chamber of Commerce.?The

announce the birth of a son, born
Tuesday, July 20, at the Camden hospital.
The baby has been named J.

Lt. and Mrs. George W. O'Neal, Jr., 1
Aro being congratulated upon the arrival
of a son, born Saturday, July 17,
at Burge Memorial Hospital, Springfield,
Mo. He has been named George
Michael O'Neal. Lt. O'Neal Is with
the Southern Aviation school.
Harry Stephanick, who has been a
patient at the Camden hospital for
two weeks, was discharged on Monday.

Southern Aviation school.
Carville Bvering, civilian Instructor
at the Southern Aviation school is recovering
from an accident. He is
able to receive visitors at the Camden
hospital.
