It is the DeKalb Beauty Salon, under the capable management of Miss Shadie CottIngham, formerly of Bennettsvllle and Florence. Miss Cottingham is a graduate of the Southern Beauty School, Norfolk, Va. Two operators will assist Miss Cottingham in the operation of this beauty salon, which has all modern equipment, massage room and seven booths where the latest beauty culture will be practiced. Ga., was announced at a party which Miss Polneau was giving for Miss Helen Bell and "Bru" Boineau, of Columbia, who are to be married November 8. The date of the wedding Is December 20. J FIRST AID CLASSES ' COMPLETE COURSE Major Moultrie Brailsford, county chairman American Red Cross, reports that classes in first aid have completed the standard course at the fbllowing places: Camden, three classes; Bethune, one class; Blaney, one (ffass; Liberty Hill, one class; Boykin, one* class; First aid stations will be established at the above places. One has already been opened at Bethune, furnished with cot, table, chairs and the like, in addition to first aid oquipmenh Of unusual Interest was securing the services of Charles Mix, Field Instructor, to teach a class in the advanced course of first aid to qualified members as instructors. Major Brailsford made the date for October and had applicants signed for the course prior to the arrival of Mr. Mix. The applicants pledged themselves to be used as Instructors in first aid work whenever needed. The course is most intensive, strenuous and interesting. Physical and mental tests must rate high. It was a thirty-hour coursq?three hours every night. The members surprised themselves at their endurance. The following are the graduates: Harold W. Funderburk, Mrs. Harold W. Tho program was la charge of Madon Hoy man and ho had as his guest speaker Lieutenant Sidney E. Maislan, of Hartford, Conn., and Camden. After completing his course at William and Mary and the medical school jt Vermont, Dr. Malsland entered tho United States army and was sent to llandolph Field, Texas, from which school he was graduated, becoming a flight surgeon and assigned to command the medical detachment at tho Southern Aviation School here in Camden, Lieutenant Maislan having succeeded Captain Plgford, who was trnnBfered. Lieutenant Maislan outlined the qualifications necessary to , become a successful flight cadet, he gave a true story of an incident which occurred at Randolph Field in which a cadet, by maintaining consciousness, saved his own life. This cadet received Bevere wounds following a crash and by quick thinking, used his belt as a tornlquet to stop the flow of blood. Which goes to show there must, at all times, be quick thinking on the part of the cadet. He told of the examinations of the muscles and eyes because high altitude tends to v aggravate such weaknesses and bo from necessity these tests are rather severe.' The doctor mentioned especially one type of test, that of colors. From various colored yarns he himself would select a crimson thread and ask the candidate to match It from the lot of colors. Many cadets Invariably pick out either green or brown instead showing color-blindness and thereby disqualifying himself as a pilot In the air corps. Lieutenant Malsland made a most pleasing and impressive talk and since he knows his < subject and knows it well, whatever Is written of his talk last Thursday, would be a masterpiece of understatement.
