Returns After Fifty-Five Years
Mrs. llattie Love Gossett, of ralestine,
Texas, was a visitor to Tho
Chronicle office Wednesday. She
told us It was her tlrst visit back to
the town of her birth since 1886. When
fourtoeu years of age her family
moved west.
Fifty-five years huvo passed, but
Mrs. Gossett wiys she recognized a
few places of her childhood and seeing
old friends.
Sho was accompanied by her sister,
Mrs. Lewis Eng, of Houston and
two daughters, Miss Fnnuett Gossett,
of Fort Worth, and Mrs. A. 8. Sinclair,
of Palestine. Most of this time
Mrs. Gossett has been keeping In
touch with the people of Camden
through tho medium of The Camden
Chronicle.

Lieutenant William L. Jackson of

A horticulturist in civilian life,
Lieutenant Jackson obtained n commission
in the U. S. army rosorvo
corps following completion of the K.
O. T. C. course at Clemson Collogo,
and was summoned for active duty
last year.
The 147til Infantry, commanded by
Colonel John A. Blount ol' HiUaboro,
Ohio, is made up almost entirely of
former national guardsmen and of
selective-Hervice men from Ohio, but
a number of officers now on duty with
the regiment are momboi'B of tho ro*
servo corps from other states who
have been summoned for service in
the last four months.
R. C. Bennett, Sr.,
Of Kershaw Dies
Kershaw, Juno 24?It. C. Ilennett,
58. died at his home here about 9
o'clock Tuesday following an illness
of three months.
Mr. l^ennett had been a resident of
Kershaw for the j>ast 42 years.
He te survived by his widow, Mrs.
Ella Horton Bennett, and three sons,
R. C. Bennett, Jr., of Charlotte, N. C.,
Carl Bennett and Jack Bennett of
Kershaw.
Funeral services were conducted
from the Hanging Rock Methodist
church at 4 p. m. Wednesday - by the
Rev. W. S. Porter. Interment was In
the churchyard.
