Mr. and Mrs Dess (loodale were both winners of the high score prizes, and S. W. j Van Lnudingham won the consolation prize. Entertain at Boykin Mrs. Deas Boykin entertained at a pretty bridge party Wednesday afternoon at her home at Boyklns. The guests, in addition to members of the hostess club Included, Mrs. H. E. Heard, Jr.. Mrs. James Sweet, Mrs. Jack Whitaker, Jr., Mrs. John Lawrence Team and Mrs. John deLoach. Mrs Frank Wooten, Jr. won the high score prize for the club members and Mrs. Whitaker, won the guests' high score prize. During their visit, Mr. and Mrs. Myers were honor guests at a dinner party given by Mr. and Mrs. H. O. Garrison Friday evening at their home Cherokee Hill, and also at -a dinner party given at Mulberry Plantation, Saturday evening by Mr. and Mrs. David Williams. Miss May Boykin entertained informally for Mr. and Mrs. Myers late Saturday at her home at Boykins. Chapter Met Thursday A meeting of the Camden Chapter of Friends of Children, Inc.,w sa held Thursday morning at the home of Mrs. Jack Whitaker, Jr., with Mrs. John Wall, the assistant hostess. A box to be sent to National Headquarters was packed, containing the following articles; 62 sweaters and 21 caps, knitted by members during thb past two months; 39 dresses, and 16 shirts. Glenn announced the engagement and upprouchlug wedding of their daughter Itetty to Mr. Willis Kurnard Harris, the bride elect has been the recipient of many lovely parties given in her honor. After the lovely announcement lea given by her mother and sister, Mrs, John M. Glenn and Mias Marion Grey Glenn, the first of a long Merles of parties was a bridge, Itnen shower given by Mrs. Charles W. Sanders, at her home neur llagood. For this occasion the house was beautifully decorated with Spring flowers, and the bride's place ut the bridge table wus marked with coraagti m valley lilies and sweet C?uh. After curds, little lletty enolr Sanders, small daughter of the hostess presented the bride with a large Muy busket containing many lovely gifts of linen. The guests were then invited luto the dining room' where Mrs. John M. Glenn and Mrs. Willis Harris mothers of the prospective bride and groom respectively poured tea from a beautifully appointed table. Mrs. 1. L. Sanders and Mrs. Edward E. Humbert assisted the hostess in serving. On April 26, Miss Glenn shared honors with Miss Louise Eflrd, when Mrs. Walter Going gave a lovely tea at their home on Wateree Avenue, in Columbia. Beautiful arrangements of iris, roses and snap drugons formed setting for this pretty party. The center piece was formed by a silver bowl containing white snap drugons and carnations to which wete attached streamlet's of white satin ribbon, showered with sprays of valley lilies, giving the effect of a huge bridal bouquet. This was flanked by white candles in silver cundelubru. Punch was served by Mrs. Ham Swafford. The guests left by way of the solarium that leads to rare flower gardens. Miss Betty Boineau added an attractive party to the series wheu she feted Miss Glenn with a lingerie shower at her lovely plantation home, "Mldflelds" near Boykln. The guests were welcomed at the door by Mrs. Karl Emanuel and Miss Mary Alden Haynsworth. During the afternoon, each guest was given a pencil and paper and asked to write a brief essay on "How to Manage a Husband". After this Misses Irene Sanders and Louise LeKolr placed a large laundry basket In front of the bride. This proved to contain many lovely gifts of lingerie for her trousseau. When the gueBts were Invited into the dining room, Mrs. Susan Kirk Haynsworth poured coffee and the hostess served delicious refreshments of chicken salad, cheese straws, potato chips and sandwiches, followed by }ee cream und cookies. Mrs. Lewis Olonn gave an Informal tea for about fifteen of Miss (llenn's friends. The home was artistically decorated with roses, columbine, and Iris, and delicious refreshments of sandwiches, cakes, and lime ice wero served. On May 3. Mrs. H. M. McLeod honored Miss Glenn with u Coca Cola party, and on the afternoon of May 3, throe tables of friends enjoyed the hospitulity of Mrs. Jake Sulllvun end Miss Annaheile Glenn, when they were hostesses at contract' for the bride-elect. Mrs. Tom Earl won high score and the guest of honor was presented with a pair of crystal vases. Prominent among the events of the vweek was Miss Annaheile Burn's] party of four tables of bridge compH-1 meeting Miss Glenn, The bride elect's place was marked with a miniature bride and nftor cards the hostess served a delicious salad course.- High score was won by Miss Jean Klrkpatrick and the bride elect was presented 7,1th a beautiful luncheon set. On Tuesday May 6, Mrs. Francis Hart and Mrs. Herbert Qlake gave a lovely tea. The home was attractively decorated by the artistic use of summer dowers. The hostesses served sandwiches, cakes, and pineapple Ice. Wednesday May 7, Mrs. Sloan Banister honored Miss Glenn with a buffet luncheon. About twenty guests enjoyed this delightful occas ion, and the honor guest was pre sented with an antique compote 8wan Lake Gardens Open The proprietor of the Swan Lake Gardens at Sumter has notified The Chronicle that the gardens are now open for Inspection. The flowers are said to be at their height and each year thousands of visitors from Camden and throughout South Carolina and from many distant points make pilgrimages to Sumter to see them.
