Methodist Missionary Meeting
The December meeting of the
Woman's . Society of Christian Service
of Salem church wan held at the
home <>' Mrs. I. J. McKeuzle, with Mrs.
James McKenzte as assistant hostess.
The home, was attractive with Yuletide
decorations. An interesting
devotional, was conducted and reports
made oi\ the finances of the Society.
Mrs. J. E. Chewnlng, president of the
local organization read an article
"Good Will to Men." Alii present
joined in singing Christmas songs.
Mrs. Shuler, wife of the pa$t<?r
recently appointed to Salem church,
was welcomed to the community and
to the missionary organization of the
church. ?
Mrs. Kate Singleton, with the touch
of an artist, played several piano
selections and Joined with Mrs, J. R.
Weathers in singing a duet "Silent
Night, Holy Night."
Mrs. McKenzle, presenting Mrs. N.
C. Arnett as the afternoon's speaker
told of the sincerity and success of her
work In various lines of church activity.
Mrs. Arnett selected "Sacred
Music" as the subject of her talk,
which was full of interest and inspiration
to the listeners. The hostesses
presented dainty Christmas gifts to
Mrs. Singleton and Mrs. Arnett and
all guests received stockings full of
candy and nuta.
Delicious refreshments were served,
these carrying out the charm and
colors of Christmas.
The delightful hospitality of the
home made the meeting at "Peaceful
Valley" an afternoon of groat pleasure
to the many guests present.
For many years, Mr. and Mrs.
MoKenzle and James MoKenzle, were
residents of Camden; their country
home is in the Anttoch section of the
county, where Mr. McKenzle has a
prosperous farm und other business
interests. Mr. and Mrs. MoKenzle are
active and capable workers in 3tlom
church.
Mrs. Llewellyn Auxiliary Hostess
An interesting meeting of the
American Iveglon Auxiliary was held
Friday afternoon December 13 at the
home of Mrs. A. S. Llewellyn. The
president, Mrs. Wylle Sheorn presided.
Before the program was given, Miss
Marie Thomas, County Nurse, told of
the work done by the Kershaw County
Tuberculosis association, and the
auxiliary voted to furnish toys, fruit,
and candles for thirty-four children in
the county. The program Included a
Christmas story, read by Miss Kdna
Team, and the singing of Christmas
Carols by Miss Katherine Russ, with
piano accompaniment by Mrs. James
Gandy. After the meeting, refreshments
were served in the dining room.
The room was lighted by candles and

arrangement of holly, red berries end
pine and two silver candlelabra holding
white candles. Mrs. Carl West
and Mrs. John Wall presided at the
tea and coffee services.

Mrs. Ruben Pitts entertained with
a lovely bridge luucheou Wednesday
morning at her borne in Brevard Place.

the hostess club, Mrs. H. 0. Marvin,
Mrs. Leila B. Klrkland, of Old Lynn,
Conn., who 1h ependlng the winter In
Camden; and Mrs. John Vlllepigue.
Lunch was served after the bridge

Celebrated Birthday
Mrs. Donald Campbell gave a party
for her son Donald Campbell,, Jr., and
twelve of his friends, Saturday ovenJug
at their attractive new home on
Lafayette Ave. The Occasion was Hhe
honor guest's thirteenth blrthduy. The
house was prettily decorated, and
games and dancing were enjoyed from
7 to 10 o'clock. Refreshments o#
punch, cakes and cookies were serVq^
during tho evening and each guest
received a jyarty favor.
Friends of Children Meet
The weekly meeting of the Camden
Chapter of Friends of Children, Inc.,
was held Thursday morning at the
home of Mrs. George Drunson. Mrs.
Clark Williams, founder of the organization
is to arrive at her home near
Camden, December 20, and the Chap|
ter Is planning a tea in honor of Mrs.
Williams in order that she may meet
all of the workers who have helped by
knitting, and in various other ways.
The tea will be given Friday,
December 29 at the home of Mrs. John
Mullen.
Association Had Party
Monday evening at the American
legion Hall, a beautiful Christmas
party was given by the Kershaw
County Teachers association. The
[hall was decorated with pines, smilax
and red berries, and the party appointments
and favors were all suggestive
[ of the Christmas season. Sevexxty
five guests were present. Under the
direction of Miss Lucille Hewlett of!
Baron DeKalb School, who is president
of the association, games and
contests were enjoyed,#and later Id
the evening, Christmas carols were
sung. Miss Hewlett was assisted by
Mrs. Kathleen Watts, County Superintendent
of Education. Punch, sandwiches
and cakes were served.
Dr. and Mrs. Wllliford Hosts
One of the most delightful afTalrs of
the week In Camden was the dinner
party given by Dr. and Mrs. J. L.
Wllliford Tuesday evening at their
home on Chesnut street. The house
was prettily decorated with poinsettlas
and Ohrlstmas greens and In the dining
roopi, where the dinner was served
buffet, the table had an imported
lace cover and a center piece of red
roses and red candles In silver holders.
The guests were seated at small
tables In the living room. Invited to
the party were: Mr. and Mrs. Donald
Morrison. Mr. and Mrs. Mortimer
Muller, Mr. and Mrs. Lambert DePaas,
Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Clark, Mr. and

Christmas tree for a special program
that has been prepared for the occasion.
The Christmas stockings prepared
by the members of the congregation
should be brought to this service.
Please see that the names are securely
fixed on the stockings to prevent confusion.
It is hoped that all parents
will attend this service with the
children.
At 11:15 morning worship will be
held with a prayer, sermon and
Christmas carols and anthem. At
16:00 p.m. a candle lighting Christmas
I service will be held In the church. A

one to attend these services.
Candlelight 8ervice
A candlelight service, "Abide With
Us," will bo presented at Pine Tree
church, Cassatt, Sunday evening, December
22, at 7 o'clock. The public
is cordially invited to attend.
Well Known Colored Man. Dead
Lester Dow, aged about thirty
years, died at his home on York street
Sunday after a short illness. Dow
has been employed by the Camden I
Dry Cleanery for a long while and hid j
charge of the silk department of that |
enterprise. He was well known and j
had the respect of both white and
colored citizens and was a valued
employee. It Is not known whatj
caused his deabhV
It is said he was badly hurt when
a iad-^whlle at play at school, whonj
a pile of logs started rolling and one
of them rolled over him and injured
his head and neck.

Truck Csuhgt Afire
Some Jittle excitement was caused
In front of The Chronicle offlco Thursday
afternoon when a large truck
caught on tiro. Part of tho contents
were dumped in the streets where it
was extinguished by tho flro department.
The truck was not badly Injured.
Death of Mre. Barnea
Mrs. Sarah M. Harnes, 27, died ut a
hospital near Columbia tonight after
IB illnoss of several weeks:
Funeral services were conduoted at
4 p. in., Thursday at Mount Elon
ltaptist church.
Surviving are her husband, Holand
Harm's of Camden; two sons, Miltou
and Hilly Ha meet her parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Joe Moseloy.
