A. ando/o end ViM Irene Mangum wore hostesses at a miscellaneous shower Tuesday at the home of Mrs. Sanders, complimenting Miss Alice McCarter, bride-elect of the mouth. Arrangements of mixed spring flowers decorated the living and reading rooms, and in the dining room the lovely lace-covered table wee centered with a large cut-glasa bowl of snapdragons. During the eveuing contests and games were enjoyed, with prises being presented Mrs. J. A. Hell and Mrs. Hen Team. Mrs. Ida K. Kabon rendered several be^utb ful selections at the piano. ,, } The bride-elect was blindfolded and asked to draw a picture of the' groom and while doing so Mrs. (Sanders and Mrs. Da than Qettys brought in the basket of lovely gifts and placed before her. During the presentation of the many useful gifts the guests gave advice to <the bride on how to make a husband happy. The hostesses, assisted by Mrs. W. U Sanders, served punch and cake. Met With Mrs. Rector The Fidelia Class of the Camden Baptist church held lte monthly business meeting at the home of Mrs. V. J. Rector. The Rector homo was made most attractive with the varied summer cut flowers. The president, Mrs. C. H. Stogner, called the meeting to order. Mrs. Dewey Creed had charge of the devotional. After the business session a social hour was enjoyed. Mrs. W. J. Major had charge of the coutests. Mrs. iC. T. Baldwin and Mrs. J. C. Turbevllle were win* ners. After the games the guests were invited into the dining room which was lighted (by green candles. The table was softly decorated with a lovely lace cover and bowl of sweet peas. Mrs. Rector (presided at the large punch 'bowl. The hostesses, Mrs. V. J. Rector, (Mrs. W. S. Pullen, Mrs. J. (H. Hasten and Mrs. John HT Clyburn passed delicious sandwiches and cookies. Mrs. Hector's gift to each hostess was a lovely corsage of sweet peas. D. A. R. Chapter To Meet The monthly meeting of the Hobkirk Hill Chapter D. A. R. will be held at the home of Mrs. W. J. Mayfiold, north Broad street, Friday, June 7, at 4:30 o'clock. After the business meeting the members will drive to inspect the inscription being placed on the DeKalb mounment on the acre of land owned by the D. A. R. chapter.. This stone wae erected by the Bobkirk Hill Chapter D. A. R. but had never been so inscribed. Piano Pupils Present Recital The piano pupils of Mrs. C. B. Busbee were presented lu a recital at her home at Banou DoKalb on last Monday afternoon. Banks To Close Monday The two banks of Camden announce that they will be closed for holiday on Monday, June 3, in observance of Jefferson Davis' birthday anniversary. Surprise Party at Lugoff On Frklay the L?ugofT school and teachers, Miss Mahgum and Mrs. Alma McKensle, the cook, gave a surprise party for Miss Alice MoCarter, who Is to be married and who will dot be here next year. All the pupils made their contribution and an electric iron was purchased. During the regular lunch hour "Mufch Happiness To You" was sung and Thelma Lois Jordan prevented the gift to Miss MoCarter. She was very much surprised (but expressed her great appreciation for the iron.( Punch, cookies and cake were served. Miss Margaret | Fewell, of Camden, was a guest for i the party. Camden People Here From Paris Arriving In Camden Wednesday from Paris was Mrs. Sumner Walte and three children. They sailed from v Genoa, Italy, on the United States liner Washington and landed at New York harbor Tuesday. In the party wore Mrs. Walte and her children, Betty Walte, Sumner Walte. Jr., and Jordan Walte, and a French governess. It Is said there were elghteeu hundred passengers abortrd. the ship being crowded to capacity, every space being taken, Colonel Walte Is a military attache > of the United States government stationed In Paris, and remained at his post. Mrs. Walte and children will incite their home In Camden tor the duration of the European war.
