Mrs. Mamie Owens
Dies at Kershaw
Kershaw, May 1.?Mrs. Mamie V.
Owena, 51, died at the Camden hospital
this 7iu>mlng.
Funeral services Thursday afternoon
from Bethany Baptist church by
her pastor, Rev. B. C. Davis, with interment
in the churchyard. She was
born and reared In the Hanging Rock
section of Kershaw county, and had
been a patient at the hospital for ten
days.
Besides her husband, Archie R.
Owens, she Is survived by throe sons,
Richard Owens, of Columbia; J. W.
Owens, and C. B. Owens, of Kershaw;
one daughter, Mrs. Bonnie Young, of
Kershaw; four 'brothers, Sam Truesdale,
of Wlnnsboro; Jeff Truosdale,
Henry Truesdale and Frank Truesdale,
all of Kershaw; two sisters,
Mrs?Loina^ Horton uud Mrs. Bell
Truesdale, also of Kershaw.
Tennis balls from 1S75 to 1B14 lacked
uniformity In bounce and in size.

Honors at Columbia

boys demonstrated their excellent
training under 0. K. McGrew by each
winning awards of excellence which
is the highest rating given lir the
contests held there, in the mechanical
drawing there were seventy contestants.
Camden high received three
of the eight awards. Nod McDowell
| won on a drawing of a Scotch baronial
hull chair; Ted Dunn on a drawing
of a single lobby desk in metal;
Robin Zemp on a drawing of a round
lobby desk in wood. Carol I>ee Rabon
received an award of excellence In
Judging shop work.
The agriculture department of the
high school was represented in a
Judging contest held In Columbia last
week by Fjped Cunningham. Fred
won second place with 1956 points?
being beaten out by one point. The
winner of the contest received 1957
points. There were 96 boys entered
in this contest.
Previously mentioned in this paper
was the name of Hetty Munn, who
won the State Citizenship essay.
The Columbia State saye "Nearly
1,200 students, the largest yet, participated
in the final contests sponsored
by the league on the university
campus Wednesday, Thursday and
Friday."
John G. Richards. Jr., of Camden,
retiring president, was awarded a
medal for outstanding work in behalf
of the league. The medal was delivered
by T. C. Jolly, superintendent of
the Union city schools.
Dr. Limoreaux To Preach 8unday
Dr. F. O. I^amoreaux, of Batesburg,
formerly pastor of^he First Baptist
church of Newberry, will fill the pulpit
at the Camden Baptist church on
Sunday. Morning service will begin
at 11:15 and evening hour of worship
will bo 8 o'clock. Rev. J. B. Gaston
Is sick and has requested Dr. Lamoroanx
to conduct Sunday's services.
Dr. Lamoreaux has conducted revival
services In Camden in the past and
| his friends will be glud to hear him
again.
