Last week be was elected president of the Social Service Federation of South Carolina college of students. There were approximately one hundred delegates present at the meeting. General Instructors Immediately upon the occasion of a disaster, all members of the committee and sub-committees will report to the police station, city hall, for Information and instruction. The chairman of the disaster, preparedness and relief comlttee will be in general charge, and the chairman of - the sub-committeeB will take charge of all activities coming under their respective Jurisdiction. In the absence of a regular chairman of a sub-committee, the next member In alphabetical order In that unit will take charge of its activities. The disaster relief chairman will notify the mayor and board of county commissioners that the committee is at work, and request that a proclamation be issued designating the American Red Crossr as the official relief agency for the emergency stations that its activities will he confined to the relief of families and individual and will not include the rehabilitation of public and municipal property. The chairman of committee on survey will be directed to immediately take the field with the committee to determine the scope of the disaster; points where relief is Immediately needed; kinds of relief needed, condition of roads and bridges. Decision should also be made as to whether or not the disaster is of the first magnitude. If the docfslon Is In the affirmative then the mayor of the city of Camden and the county board of directors will be asked to appoint the following to work with the Red Cross CQflim 11teej Pre?Went. and secretary^ chamber of commerce, city engineer, county engineer, editor local papers, chief of police, sheriff and county of rural police. Chairman of medical aid committee will summon to headquarters the physicians and nurses who have volunteered for> this work. The chairmen of all other committees will be assembling their helpers to be ready to put their plans Into operation. Ih the event of a disaster of the first magnitude, the expanded disaster relief committee will determine the following: Shall the mayor or sheriff be asked to request the governor to call out units of the South Carolina National Guard. Determine what financial appeal shall be made to the citizens, or to the nation, and authorize such appeals to he made by the chairman of the finance committee. Arrange for the committee of relief to be on duty continuously for several days. The location of Its meeting place and plans of operation should be given widest circulation. Radio, telephone and telegraph to be used freely. Working Plan of Committees Rescue committee?To organize and mobilize rescue parties from the American Legion, Boy -Scouts and other organizations. Food committee?Determine beat sources of -food supply, obtain pledges of cooperation from food merchants; organize staff of canteen workers. Clothing committee ? Determine available sources of new clothing; obtain cooperation of clothing merchants; make plans for renovation and sterilization of donated clothing. Shelter committee?Study probable need for shelter; determine buildings beat suited; maintain uptodate list of buildings and obtain cooperation from owners; study sources of supply of cots, blankets and the like. Medical Aid committee? Survey medical, hospital and nursing resources of Camden; cooperate with city and county health departments; cooperate with medical and hospital groups; organize first aid stations; maintain list of physicians and nurses available for duty. Registration,^ and Communication committee?Be familiar with all . Red Cross forms, especially Form 901; have a supply on hand. Transportation and Communication committee ? Survey transportation and communication resources of the county; obtain pledges of cooperation from all suoh facilities; organlzd a volunteer motor corps. Finance committee?Make plans for a fund raising organization; determine what financial appeals are to be made to the citizens and to the nation. Boosters Stop Here On Low Country Tour A group of thirty-eight Rock Hill boosters invaded Camden last Saturday morning. The Rock Hillers were in a Greyhound bus and on their way to visit the famous, gardens in the low country. They reached Camden at 7:56 o'clock and stopped at the chamber of commerce to say hello to the Camden group. In the party were Bob Ward of the Rock Hill Herald. James S. White, publicity chairman of the Rock Hill chamber of commerce and others of priminence In the mill city. The party made a tour of Camden and expressed admiration of the beautiful streets and homes.
