entertained by a talk in behalf

Mrs. James Y. Perry, of Columbia,

jher explanation of just what the sym[
phony means to South Carolina. Mrs.
Perry pointed out that It would mean
much to the state from an advertising
standpoint. She explained that we
have had nothing of this sort in the
south since the civil war. We have
all read much in the different papers
about the symphony but we learned
more today and would like to keep In
closer touch with the developments.

HE SAVED THE $395
- A* gentleman who lives his winters
in South Carolina asked an ^accountant
In the town where he spends them
to prepare for him a statement of
what his Income tax would be if he
became a citizen of this state. Th<
gentleman has an income of approximately
$10,000 a year?a taxable Income
of that amount. He now Is a
citizen of a Northern state.
The accountant prepared the statement
and this is what it showed: The
visitor's normal income tax; under
South Carolina law would have been
$72 less than he was paying in the
North. But with South Carolina's
special tax on intangibles added, the
put would have jumped to $395 more
than the visitor was paying fa the
North.; ^ '
" The figure* were presented, tile visitor
studied them, then said: "^elU I
guess I might as well save th$t.$396.
Citizenship here Isn't worth any more
