President's Ball
Attractive Event
A dancing event that was declared
to bo the most Interesting and pleasant
of the season, attracted a small
but soloct crowd of dancers to the
high school gymnasium last Thursday
evening, the occasion being the
President's Birthday Ball. Given annually
to raise funds to aid In the
national campaign against Infantile
paralysis.
From the standpoint of numbers,
the affair was a dlBtlnct disappointment
to County Chairman John Porter
and City Chairman Jack Whltaker,
Jr. These gentlemen, with a group
of committee workers did not stint
In time or effort to attract a big crowd
1 of dancers to the event, but for some
unknown reason, the effort was a failure
and the dance receipts barely took
care of the expenses.
Those who attended tho affair were ?
profuse In their declarations that It
was quite the most pleasant event of
the dancing season, with inspiring
music by the Hobklrk Inn orchestra
of seven pieces and a really splendid
floor show presented by Miss Margaret
Land and her group of dancers from
Chester. ?
It Is to be regretted that, in view
of the very humane purpose of the
event, that so little cooperation waa
evidenced by the general public.
In Mebourne, Australia, street cars
are equipped with loudspeakers,
through which the drivers announce
the name of the next stopping place.
