Mrs. W. J. Dunn on Monday afternoon,
November 7. Mrs." Egmont von
Tresckow and Mrs. James H. Burns
told of the entertainment in the Crystal
room at the Columbia Hotel, during
ihe State Convention of the U. D.,
C. and president, Mrs. von Tresckow,
read a full account of the business
meeting. The next meeting will be
held at the home of Mrs. Annie S.
Davidson.

CAMDEN GARDEN CLUB MEETS
AT HOME OF MRS CHARLTON
The monthly meeting of the Camden
Garden'Club was held Monday afternoon.
November 14 at "Little Hedges"
?the home of Mrs. Mary Fletcher
Charlton, with Miss Fannie Fletcher
presiding.
Mrs. Edmund Stout gave an interesting
account of the annual meeting
of the state garden club, which was
recently hold in Columbia. Miss Olive
Whittredge presented to the club a
helpful blueprint of plans for the Seaboard
station grounds. An efficient
committee has been formed concerning
this project and at the next meeting
further details will be submitted.
The following officers were elected
for the coming year: Mrs. A. C. McKain,
president; Mrs. W. 3. Rainsford.
vice president; Mrs. Leonard
Schenk, secretary; Mrs. E. B. Mobley,
treasurer; Miss Lillian Yates, corresponding
secretary.
The club voted to thank the retiring
president, Miss Fletcher, for the
splendid work she did last year.
The guest speaker for the afternoon
was Mrs. James Cathcart, of Columbia.
She used as her subject "Color
In the Garden."
There were many exhibits of fall
flowers. Those who received distinction
from a horticultural viewpoint
were Mrs. E. B. Mobley, first place
for roses and Mrs. N. C. Aruett second
for chrysanthemums. From the
standpoint of interest Miss Fannie
Fletcher received first place for camellias.

Miss Brown Entertains
A pretty party of the week was that
given by Miss I^aura May Brown
Thursday afternoon. Players were Invited

for four tables of contract and
prizes Were awarded Mrs. A. M. McLeod
for high score, Mrs. Eldon Jones
for low score, and Mrs. Lee Little
for consolation. The hostess, assisted
by Miss Drue Baxley and Miss Christie
Hey served a delightful salad course
after cards.
Needlework Club Met
The regular weekly meeting of the
Needlework club was held Thursday
afternoon at the parsonage with Mrs.
R. Bryce Herbert as hostess. After
an hour of handwork guests' were invited
into the dining room where delightful
refreshments were served. Invited
to the party besides club members
were: Mrs. George S. Rhame,
Mrs. Dan Mackey. Mrs. M. M. Reaionover
and Mrs. Stalvey.

Hill, will discuss further how counties
and groups of counties can put
on reading clinics.

The regular weekly meeting of the
Kiwanis club was held at Hotel Camden
on Tuesday.
Visitors at the meeting were: J.
Reece Williams. Roach Stewart, of
I^ancaster; Judge C. T. Graydon, Beverly
Herbert, Beverly Herbert, Jr.,
and John K. Aull from Columbia; the
Rev. A. Douglas McArn, of Camden.
The program was In charge of the
Boy's and Girl's committee, Marion
Williams, chairman, who had for his
guest speaker, Col. R. Crelghton Williams.
of the Engineering Corps of the
United States Army. He gave a most
interesting talk on the timely subject
of: "The Citizen's Obligations To National
Defense."
Mrs. Taylor Was Hostess
Mrs. G. E. Taylor gave a delightful
buffet supper and bridge party at her
home Monday evening. lively fall
roses were used In the party rooms
where guests were received for three
tables of contract. A turkey supper
was served at seven o'clock and the
hostess was assisted by her daughter.
