Announcement Party One of the loveliest parties of the midsummer was the tea which Mrs. Alexander Garden Clarkson gave Wednesday afternoon at her home lu honor of her sister, Miss Virginia Hamilton Halle, whose engagement to John Stevens Davidson was announced at that time to a large group of the brlde-elect'e friends. Dainty silver wedding bolls wore pinned on the guests at the door by Miss Gertrude Zemp. On a table In the reception hall was placed a miniature wedding party above which hung a large white wedding bell wltil the inscription, "Ginla and John, August 4th." In the receiving line with the hostess and the bride-elect were their mother, Mrs. W. H. Halle, and the brldogioom-elect's mother, Mrs. A. S. Davidson. Miss ^laile wore a long afternoon dress of white marquisette made with an embroidered bodice, and a heart-shaped corsage of Brlarcltffe roses. Her only ornament was a necklace with a seed pearl pendant, an old family heirloom. Mrs. Clarksou's gown was of flesh chiffon. Mrs. Halle wore a tea rose lace dress and Mrs. Davidson was attired In deep rose lace. Mrs. Dee Mays and Mrs. Alexander Hey ward served punch and individual cakes. GOODING?SOWELL Hampton, July 16.?A marriage cen-( teriug the interest of a wide circle of friends was that of Miss Mary Elizabeth Gooding, of Hampton, and Dan Franklin Sowell, of Camden, and Gainesville, Fla. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. W. D. Arnold in Harmony Phesbyterian church at Crocketville Wednesday evening, July 6. The bride is the younger daugher of Mrs. Annie Causey Gooding and the late P. H. Gooding. She is a member of one of the oldest and most prominent low-country families. She is a graduate of Winthrop college and since her graduation has been a member of the faculty of the Hampton schools. Mr. Sowell is the only son of Mr. and Mrs. D. L. Sowell, of Camden. He graduated at Clemson college with a B S. degree In 1931. I>ater, he did post graduate work at the University of Kentucky, graduating with the degree of master of Bclence In 1932. Since then he has held a position with the South" Carolina experiment station at Clemson college, and for the past three years, he has been with the agricultural extension service at the rniversity of Florida. Delightful Bridge Luncheon Mlaa Charlotte Shannon's delight^ ful bridge luncheon on Wednesday morning at her home was given for the members of her contract club and Mrs. Tucker Boykln, Miss Alberta Team, Mrs. E. N. McDowell and Mrs. Barnwell Clarkson. Winning high scores for the morning were Mrs. XJ. Klrklund and Mrs. A. S. Davidson. The hostess served a delightful luncheon at noon. Buffet Supper For Visitors Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Wilson entertained at a buffet supper for Mr. and Mrs. Queen Friday evening at their home. TableB were arranged for bingo in a pretty setting of garden flowers. Among the guests at the party were Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Botsill, of Zanesvtlle, Ohio, who are visiting Mrs. Betslll's parents, Mr. aud Mrs. W. G. Wilson. The hosts served a buffet supper after the bridge games. Met With Mrs. Gardner The Cassatt Home Demonstration club met with Mrs. H. E. Gardner on July 19. The meeting was called to order by the president Mrs. H. E. Gardner. Devotional was by Mrs. T. i S. Croft, after which the roll was called and the minutes of the previous meeting were read by the secretary, Mrs. James Robinson. The meeting was called to order by the vice president, Mra. Will Denton. The 4-H club was In charge of part of the program, Ionia Sinclair road a piece about Camp Loug, w^ich she attended along with sixteen other girls of the club. She made a very Interesting talk on Camp Long and thon the club Hang camp songs. Mrs. J H. Sinclair told about the trip that was made by the women />f the county that went to Charleston on their short course. She made it very Interesting and I think that more club womeu will want to go on the trip next year. Mra. Watts, county superintendent of education made a talk on "Community Activities and the Need of Consolidated Schools." W. C. McCarley, county farm agent, urged the hoys of the community to have a 4-H club which will be a great help to them and the community.
