Ten Workmen Die
In Tunnel Blast
Baltimore, Mil., July 20.?A premature
explosion of 450 pounds of dynamite
killed ten members of a crew of
eighteen workmen blasting a water
tunnel through solid rock 200 feet bo
low the surface near the city pump
litK station today.
Seveu men were killed outright as
the burst of rock rolled through the
tunnel. Three of the eleven brought
to the surface alive died in hospitals.
Construction company officials said
the blast which occurred about 7
o'clock must have been set off by
accident while the men were tumping
down the huge charge of explosive. I

escuped with their lives. The dead
were all Baltimore negroes.
It was the task of the mining crew
working from mldnigtu to 8 a. m. to
blast away the rock f<m the day crew
to remove. The disaster carno when
the tlnal charge of the night exploded.
None of the injured men were uble
to explain what had happened.

we mought take it over
next year, the mounting ozone is
mighty fine for weak lungs of which
the undersigned has one. it keeps
him from doing mannual labor except
fishing and picking blackberries
in season.
