Heath) Ina Del<oach and her aggregation or Hhso lassies Htepped riglit along with their namesakes of the Twilight league when they swamped the Gillis warriors in a girl's softbull league tilt al the Fair street pasture Friday evening, the score being Ti to 7. The condition of the playing Held made good pastlming impossible. The uneven surface caused balls to take unexpected hops and as a result the fielding eft oils were more or less of a lucky nature. The Gillis forces were outhit and outplayed by a team of more experienced girls There were Hashes of latent ability In the ranks of the defeated group, however, and It Is certain that as the season progresses there will be a notable improvement of play. It was more or less of a New Deal for the Gillis group for a very attractive matron by that name did some pitching that quite got the goat of the opposition. Meeting of Thorn Hill Club The Thorn 11111 Home Demonstration club meeting was held Friday, May 21, at 2:30 o'clock. The meeting was called to order by the president, Mrs. J. L. Thorn. Song, "In the Garden." Devotional by Mrs. L. D. Vincent, after which the Lord's prayer was repeated in unison. Roll was called and reading of minutes by secretary. Kach member responded to the roll call with their favorite cake. At this time the meeting was turned over to Miss Fewell. The garden sheets for the month were given to each member, also a bulletin on a "Well Kept Farm Home." Miss Fewell stressed very much on the benefit of each of these. The subject for the month was a summary lesson. At this tim?> record cards and >ear books were filled out, after which the meeting adjourned. Hiuxon Dies At Kershaw Korshuw, May 28.?Donald II. lilnhoi), state hlghwuy department inspec, tor for Lancaster, Chester and York counties, died at his home here this afternoon following an Illness of ten days. laist week Mr. Hlusou was stricken with a heart attack and was removed to a hospital at Hock Hill, but he had Improved so greatly as to be returned home. Huddenly today he suffered another attack and died lustunlly. Funeral services will be conducted at 'the residence Saturday afternoon at 4 o'clock by the Kev. L. D. Haiuer, Kershaw, pastor of the Kershaw Methodist church; the Kev. W. D, Gleaton, Sumter; the Kev. H. Hryce Herbert, Camden; and the Key. U. G. Murphy, Heath Springs. Interment will follow at the Heath Springs cemetery. Mr. Hlusou, 42, was the son of the late Dr. F. N. Hlusou uud Mrs. Margaret Slack Hlusou, of Heath Springs. He was born In the l'rimus section of Lancaster county, and later removed to Heuth Springs, where he spent the greater part of Ms " life. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. idelle Mobley Hinsou; two daughters, Margaret and Nellie Kay Iiinson; one sister, Mrs. Culthbert Gregory, San Ilernaandine, Cal., and two brothers, FJH. Linson, Heath Springs and Hryce Iiinson, i^incaster. Mr. Hinson was for a number of years connected with the Springs Hank and Mercantile company, Heath Springs. Later he was with the state highway department and thei^ the Kershaw Oil Mill, returning the first of this year to the highway department. He was a member of Barron 'lodge, A. F. M. Heath Springs, and Hejaz Temple, A. A. O. N. M. S. He was a member of the Methodist church, on the board of stewards, a position he also occupied previously at Heath Springs. He had been a resident of Kershaw about three years. 4-H County Council Holds Joint Meet The 4-H County Council held their annual meeting at the court house in Camden Saturday afternoon, May 22, with a large number of boys and girls present. Dorothy West, who Is county president and also slate president, presided over the meeting in a most charming manner and with much poise. The meeting was opened wlrti the singing of "America." Mary MeLeod, the vice president, conducted the devotional exercise, after which the secretary. Emily McCoy read the minutes of the last meeting and called the roll by clubs, and it was found that the Lugoff club won the loving cup for having the most in attendance. Dan Lewis, State Hoys' Club Agent, of Clenison College, led the council in singing. A brief talk was then given the 4-H clubs and their meaning.* Miss Fewell. our efficient Home Demonstration Agent talked on the i "Head H." Mrs. Kate Gettys. president of the County Council of Farm ! IWpmen in a most charming manner introduced Kev. O. L. Hardwick, pastor of the Lugoff Methodist church, who gave an interesting talk on "Hands." J. C. Willis, assistant county agent, gave an interesting talk on the "Heart-H." and then a talk.?on "Health." was given by Dr. A. W. Humphries, county health doctor." I he speaker of the evening ,Dan Lewis, was then introduced and ho gave a very enthusiastic talk on "4H Work." which was enjoyed by all who heard him. A canning contest was also held by Miss Juanita Neely and Mary McLeod of Charlotte Thompson, won first place. She will also attend the 4-H short course at Winthrop College. Emily McCoy of Cassatt, won first in the achievement contest and she will also be awarded a trip to Winthrop College, where she will attend the State 4-H Council. It was voted on by the council that hereafter the girls and bpys would hold their meeting together. The following officers were elected for the next year: President.
