At noon on Saturday Miss Martha
Singleton and Miss Charlotte DuBose
gave an informal drop-in party Cor
the wedding guests at the DuBese
home on Uiilon street. Immediately
following this Miss Jean Harris gave
a luncheon at the home of her parents,
Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Harris. The
luncheon tables were covered with a
lace cloth and its centerpiece was a
beautifully emboesed wedding cake
topped with a corsage of bride's roses.
During the luncheon guests jbnJoyed
cutting the cake for the traditional
emblems. . Mrs. W. H. Harris
and Mrs. W. L. Goodale assisted the
hostess in entertaining.
Miss Herbert Honored
Miss Anne Herbert, of South (Jarolinn,
was guest of honor at a meeting
of the Woman's Missionary Society
of the Lyttleton Street Methodist
church last Tuesday evening. Miss
Herbert spent several years as a medical
missionary in China and on this
occasion presented entertaining and
interesting moving pictures of the
country and it's people. The pictures
were explained by Miss Herbert and
the audience was charmed by the
beauty spots of China, interested by
the work of* Industrial schools named
for American missionary women who
had labored in that field and convinced
of the success of the work in large
hospitals. The people of China were
brought very close to the Camden audience
by pictures of Americans working
actively in many places of missionary
work, by the little native children
playing games, mothers with
sick babies attending a medical clinic,
and on a trellis covering a door to a
splendid hospital, a luxuriant Dorothy
Perkins rose vine blooming.
After the program in the church
was over a social hour was enjoyea
at Wimberly Hall, where Mrs. Dess
Goodale's circle served punch, sandwiches
aftd cake^ The table was attractive
with a: lace cloth, on which
a silver bowl of pastel sweet peas and
blue ragged robtntf' was used as a
centerpiece, and blue candles burned
in silver holders at the ends of the
table.
Mrs. T. B. Bruce presented a box of
silk hose to B*i?* Herbert, as a gift
from the local auxiliary. Mrs. Walter
I. Herbert, mothefr of the honor guest
was at guest of the evening, being
State dx-president of the Woman's
Missionary Society of South Carolina,
the has many friends in Camden.
At an early date Miss Herbert will
return to China, after spending a furlough
at home taking special courses
in her work rfnd by her ability, consecration
to her task a personal
charm will continue to work successfully
in her chosen field of Christian
service. _

Miss Louise Daniels, who has been
laboratory technician at the Camden
hospital for the past two years, has
returned to her home In Greensboro,
N. C.

Huckabee at the Columbia hospital,
Columbia, on Saturday, May 29, a
daughter. She has been named Marianne
Huckabee. Mrs.
Fred Bryant and son are
spending some time at Folly Beach.

brief stay before her wedding Saturday
to Edwin Laurence, of Calhoun.
Mrs.. T. Lee Little and Mrs. Louise
Cantey left Thursday for N. C. C. W.,
at Greensboro, N. C. Their daughters,
Misses Ellen Little and Carolyn Cantey,
will receive certificates in a secretarial
course. Their many friends
will be glad to know they both have
positions in Burlington, N. C.
Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Gates, of Clearwater,
Fla., enroute from Greenwood,
after attending the, graduation exercises
of their daughter, at Lander col- i
lege, spent Monday night with Mrs.
Gates' parents, Mr. and Mrs. T. P.
Brown. Mrs. Brown accompanied them
home for a visit.

Capehart^s platoon was winner
in the competitive drill Monday afternoon
before a large gallery of Charleston,
state and out of state visitors.
Miss Bradford Entertains
Miss Mary Lee Bradford, who is
leaving Camden soon to make her
home in Branchville, invited a group
of friends to a party Wednesday night
at her home. Thirty-five guests enJoyed
dancing and games. Punch and
cakes were served from a candle-lit
table centered with a bowl of mixed
flowers. Geusts from out of town
were: Miss Ellen Eisman, of Sumter:
Miss Georgene Terry, of Rock
Hill, and Lamar Rush, of Columbia.

bridge club were entertained Wednesday
afternoon by Mrs. 8. W. Vanl^andingham
at her home. An extra table
was added in honor of Miss Grace
Vesty, of Fairmont, N. C., who Is the
guest of Mrs. James Gandy. Tod score
prize for club members went to Mrs
Hughey Tindal and Miss Vesty received
the high for visitors as well as a
guest prize. Playing at the honoree's
table were Mrs. Wylie 8heorn. Mrs.
M. M Reasonover and Mrs. James
Gandy.

The bridegroom's best man was
John Blum, of New York city.

reception was given. In the dining
room, the bride's table, In green,
white and sliver appointments, was
centered with the beautiful wedding
cake.

The Ferguson-Hinckley wedding 1b
of wide social Interest. The bride is
a descendant of distinguished South
Carolina families. Her mother was
before marriage, Miss Ethel Corbett.
The bridegroom Is a graduate of
Choate school and Of Yale university,
and he makes his home' part of
the year In Northampton and part of
the year in Camden.
After a wedding trip Mr. and Mrs.
Hinckley will summer on the coast of
Maine, returning south for the winter.

Mrs. Irving Pearce was hostess at
bridge Wednesday afternoon at her
home on DeKalb street. The top score
prize was won by Mrs. Joseph Brunson.
A salad course with iced tea
was served to eight members of Mrs.
Pearce's club and to Mrs. G. S. King,
