Former Senator Nells Christensenk

Exohange Club Notes ?
Due largely to the good work of
the attendance chairman, Elihu
Schlosburg, . the club-^had jin almost
100 per cent attendance at this week's
meeting,, although President T<?am
Gettys was unavoidably absent. Vice
president Dewey Creed presided over
the meeting. ?
The program committee had secured
the popular and efficient secretary
of the Camden and Kershaw County
Chamber of Commerce, Mr. Frank H.
Heath, to speak, and he made a very
able address, giving the aims and objects
of the Chamber of Commerce.
The speech was listened to with great
Interest and much enjoyment by those
present.

at their attractive home in Columbia.
Miss Jean Harris complimented
Miss ilaile with an unusually lovely
bridge party Monday afternoon. Blue
and yellow cut flowers were used
about the party rooms and a corsage
of rcses was presented the honor
guest. MJss Mary Cioodule won the
high score prize and Miss Marie Hailo
the low prize. To the bjride-elect
Miss Hurris presented a lovely gift.

Mrs. C. J. Shannon, 4th, and Mrs.
Ralph Shannon were Joint hostesses
in honor of Miss Halle at a party
given Tuesday afternoon at the Shannon
home on Chesnut street. A linen
luncheon set was pesented the honor
guest, who also received the top
score prize, a pair of pictures. Mrs.
R. E. MoCarty was winner of the low
score prize.
Mrs. A. G. Clarkson and Miss Virginia
Haile presided at the tea and
coffee service in the dining room
where lovely brouze snapdragons and
candles of the same shade centered
the tea table.
Again on Wednesday afternoon a
pretty party was given in honor of
MiSs Haile. Mrs. R. 15. McCarty and
Mrs. Delajache Sheorn entertained
jointly at the home of Mrs. McCRrty
on Highland avenue. Miss Marie
Haile and Mrs. Frank Wopten, Jr.,
were winners of the score, prizes and
the bride-elect received a lovely gift
from tiie hostesses. Mrs. F. B. Rogers,
of Bennettsville, sister of the
bride-to-be, and Miss Nancy Dempster,
of Asheboro, N. C., a bridesmaid
in the Haile-Clarkson wedding were
among the guests at the party.

Mr. and Mrs. Sidney Rosen announce
the engagement of their
daughter, Beatrice Eleanor, to Dr.
Sam Bernard Agoos, of Augusta, the
daifi_of-the marriage to be announced
later.
Miss Rosen was graduated fiom
Tubman high school tvnd w&s a member
of Phi Theta Kappa, honorary society
at -the Junior College.
Dr. Agoos attended the University
of Georgia and the Atlanta Southern
Dental College and interned in the
Gopvqneur hospital in New York city.
He Is now practicing in Augusta,
where he and his bride will make
theif home after their marriage.
The jnany friends of Miss Rosen,
will remember her as a pupil in the
Camden Graded school, and while in
Camden made her home with Mr. and
Mrs. A. Sam Karesh. Miss Rosen
a jilece of-Mrs. Kafieah.

Wednesday evening at 8 o'clock, Rev.
J. B. Caston performing the ceremony.
Only a few relatives witnessed the
ceremony.
Miss Truesdale is a graduate nurse
of the Camden hospital.
Mr. Gaston was formerly from
Chester county and has been an employee
of the Rock Spring Creamery,
of Lugoff for about fourteen years.

legion Auxiliary was held at the

In reports from the Spring ltally it
was learned that the local auxiliary
had received two citations for membership?one
from Nutional and one
from Stato department.
Mis. K. F. Chew-Ding told of
the Nutional Commander, Harry Colmery
and the National President of
the Auxiliary, Mrs. H. S. Hahn. National
defense was the keynote of the
commander's address. Seventeen
units of the state won national uwafdb.
Mrs. Hughey Tindul presented
flowers to the national president
in behalf of the South Carolina legion
Auxiliary.
A letter was read from Spartanburg
that the name of Mrs. W. W.
Holland had been withdrawn as a
candidate for state president, thus
leaving Mrs. Hughey Tindal's name
without opposition. Several very complimentary
letters from auxiliaries
were road In regard to our candidate
for this high office.
The following committee was named
to make all arrangements for a
benefit dance at some early date:

so Miss Christie Hey was Invited to
tell of her work In the schools of the
county. She makes health talks and
gives advice on dental care to all
school children and in this way many
bad habits are corrected?making for
better health for the future of our
citizens.

Misses Gertrude arid Lula Gillis at
which time the state president, Mrs.
C. W. Harris, of Bishopville, will be
honor guest.

Special Meeting of Midway Club
The members of the Midway Home
Demonstration club were quite surprised
when they received cards this
past week to be present at a special
meeting on Wednesday afternoon,
March 31, at (lie home of Mrs. L. T.
Anderson. Though it was Btlll a greater
surprise when we found out the
task it would have been to huvo gotten

chairman .unless we were together.
Therefore, Mrs. II. L. Horton, president,
caluld to order between twenty
and twenty-five members of tho club,
after which we repeuted tho Lord's
! prayer, followed by a song, "Believe
Me If All Those Endearing Young
Charms." The secretary, Mrs. H. C.
McCoy culled tho roll and read the
minutes of the lust meeting.
Miss Fewell gave us our pictures,
songs and garden work for the month.

month?"The Mother of the Artist,"
painted by James Whistler. It personifies
motherhood und it very calm
and peucefql.
Miss Fewell's subject was "Windows."
She had with her soveral different
patterns of curtains which gave
us ideas of how to make suitable curtains
for our windows at home. Wo
were delighted to know thut we could
get, only for the asking, a lady, who
wus present with Miss Fewell at this
meeting to come out arid help us In
muking curtains, chair coverings^ and
any other problem with which we
need assistance.
Miss Fewell helped each chairman
with her report so that they would
reach each county chairman before
April 10. The hostess served a delicious
sweet course c? cake and nectar.
