The sheriff shall receive in addition
to his regular salary. his usees

such us searching for fugitives,
conveying prisoners to the Stute Reformatory
and to the State Penitentiary,
etc. Ho shall receive ulso fifty
(60c) cents per day for dieting each
prisoner for each duy or fraction
thereof, while detained in the county
Juil, or otherwise in his custody.
The sheriff shall be allowed Five
Hundred ($600.00) Dollars, if so much
bo necessury, for criminal work done
outside the county, puyable upon his
itemized order, and approved by the
County Board. 1
The Board of Directory of Kershaw
county is authorized and directed to
borrow for the use of Kershaw county,
for the payment of the items above
appropriated, the amounts needed to
provide for the payment of the same,
and shall huve no right to borrow for
county purposes, or pledge the credit
of tho county, in excess of the total
amount of tho ubovo appropriation,
except that they may borrow for the
renewal or extension of existing indebtedness
as may be needed for thut
purpose. And tho suid Board of Directors
are authorized to execute
notes or other evidences of indebtedness
for the amount borrowed hereunder,
and are empowered and directed
to pjiedge for the payment of the
same the full faith and credit of Kershaw
county und the (axes levied for
the current year and all other funds
from whatsoever source coming into
the hands of the treasurer und applicable
to county purposes.
If any emergency shall arise for
the expenditure of a greater amount
than hereinabove provided for any
purpose, the Increased or additional
expenditure shall be made only with
the approval of the Legislative delegation,
and, when any expenditure is
so authorized and approved, the Board
of Directors may borrow to the
amount necessary for the payment
thereof.
All funds from whatever source,
other than the taxes levied for the
current year, together with gasoline
and Insurance taxes from the State,
coming into the hands of the treasurer
and applicable to county purposes,
shall be held by the treasurer to be
appropriated as ordered by a majority
of the Legislative delegation from
Kershaw county.

And Near Bethune
Bethune, March 17.?The March
meeting of the Presbyterian auxiliary
was held at the . home of Mrs. G. B.
McKinnon, president, Wednesday afternoon.
This was the regular annual
business meeting as the new year begins
in April. Very gratifying reports |
of the work done during the year
were given. Two new officers were
elected?Miss Eva Morgan, vice president,
and Miss Mary McKinnon, boo
retary. During the social hour which
followed, Charlotte russe and cake
were served.
' Last Thursday a delegation of
Methodists went to Columbia to attend
the missionary council of both
Northern and Southern Methodists.
Composing the party were the Rev.
C. S. Floyd and Mrs. Floyd. Mrs. A.
B. McLaurin, Mrs. J. M. Clyburn, Mrs.
W. B. Davis, Mrs. M. F. Helms, Mrs.
Clara Davis and Miss Mary Arthur.
Miss Arthur remained throughout the
woolt end.
Mils Sara Grey Proctor had as her
guests last week end her sister, Miss
Vlniuila Proctor and Miss Martha
Brice, both of Rock Hill.
Mr. and Mrs. J. N. McLaurin, Margaret

The women of the Presbyterian
church wish to announce that they
will sponsor a musical entertainment |
at the high school auditorium Friday
evening, March 26. A small admission
fee will be charged which will
be used for improvements on the
Presbyterian manse.
The Future Farmers of - America
boys supervised by M. C. Mason, vocational
agriculture teacher, entertained
their fathers with a flsh fry
at the Baker club house last Friday
evening.
Miss Mary McKinnon has recently
spent several days in Kershaw, the
guest of Miss Ruth Estridge.
Mrs. Lee Horton, Mrs. F. M. Lindler,
Mrs. R. L. Waters, Mrs. Varnadore,
Miss Maggie Brannon, Mrs. John
Catoe and Miss Margaret Fields attended
the annual meeting of the
Woman's Missionary Union of the
Kershaw association which was held
at Wateree church last Saturday.
Miss Elsie Mae Hammond, of Winthrop
college, was at home for the
week end. *
Miss Ethel Turbeville had as her
guest during the week end her sister,
Miss Nell Turbeville.
Mr. and Mrs. Morrison Graham and
Mrs. E. Z. Truesdale spent last Thursday
in Columbia.
Circles one and two of the Baptist
W. M. S. held their March meetings
Monday afternoon with Miss Maggie
Brannon and Mrs. L. D. Robertson,
respectively.
Mrs. W. W. Mungo, manager of the
recreational center, with her assistants,
gave a pleasant social at the
community hall Friday evening.
Games were played and cake and lemonade
were served.
Mrs. E. Z. Truesdale entertained
her Sunday school class very delightfully
at her home Tuesday afternoon.
- Mr. and Mrs. L. D. Barr have had
as their recent guests Lieutenant and
Mrs. J. E. Barr, of Langley Field, Vs.,
and Mrs. R. A. Barr, of Gilbert.
