1 Swary Garden Iris Are Superior
A large number of Camden people
visited the Swan Gardens of Suniti r
(luring the past two weeks and were
J delighted with tin- beauty of same.
Withers Trotter, a prominent florist
, of Camden, has just returned from
New York, where ho attended the big
iris show at the Rockefeller Center
and saw considerable Iris growing in
the parks of New York. On his return
lie visijed the Swan Guldens of Sumter
and said that the Sumter Iris was
superior to any he saw in New York,
although of a different type.
Contrary to other gardens in low;er
South Carolina there was no admission
charge to visit them.
Miss deLoach Hostess
Miss Faith deLoach was hostess at
a delightful bridge party which she
gave Thursday afternoon in honor of
Miss Charlotte Salmond, whose marriage
to Dr. Joseph Branson, of Chester,
S. ('., will take place Saturday,
June 6, at Grace Episcopal church,
and Miss Helen Savage, whose engagement
to John Edmunds, of Spartanburg
foas recently announced.
Guests were invited for five tables
which were arranged in the living
room, made attractive with vases of
mixed spring flowers, corsages of pink
sweet peas and baby's breath marked
the places of the honor guests. Refreshments.
carrying out the color
scheme of green and white, were served
later in the evening, the hostess j
being assisted by Miss Virginia Haile.
Miss Susan Kennedy was winner of
the high score prizes and Miss Elizabeth
Clarke won the floating prize.
The hostess also presented each of
the honor guests with a souvenir of
the afternoon.

Miss Zemp was graduated from Converse
College in 1934 and while there
was a member of the Epsilon Delta
sorority. After leaving" school she
spent one winter with her parents in
Camden, where she was a popular
member of the- young society set and
for the past year, has been making
her home In Washington.
Mr. Black graduated In 1933 from
the I'niversity of North Carolina,
where he was a member of the Beta
Theta Pi fraternity. He is now living j
in Washington where he is an electrical
engineer in tlie Potomac Electric
Company.

Antloch Graduating Exercises
The graduating exercises of the
Antloch school took place Monday
night, with seven girls and one boy
receiving diplomas. Talks were made
by Rev. Henderson of the Methodist
church of that section, and by Mrs.
Kathleen B. Watts, superintendent of
education. B. K. Sparrow, Auditor of
Kershaw county, who formerly taught
at Antloch school, gave a history of
tho school. Mr. Shannon is superintendent
of the Antiorh school.

Daniel Marion Kirkley
Daniel Marlon Kirkley, 72, died suddenly
Sunday near Camden.
I- uneral services were held from
the home al 10:20 Tuesday morning.
Interment was made in the Kershaw
cemet erv.
Besides his widow, Mrs Lottie Can
then Kirkley, he Ih survived by the
following children: Carlisle B. Kirkley
of Easley, Mrs. O. B. Slater and
Mrs. Oeorge O'Kourke of Atlanta.
Mrs. J. R. McLeod of Detroit, Mich.,
Mrs. B. Harold Rucker of Columbia.
He was active In public afTalrs of
the county. Twice he served as commissioner
from his township.
