South Carolina Delegate to Baltimore Convention Whipped a Man. The Greenwood Index-Journal snya Il)e death in Miami of Mills Moouey, a former resident of Greenville and a native of that county, recalls the prominent place he had for a brief period in the Democratic National convention of 1'J12 in ltaliimoro. Mooney was it member of the South Carolina delegation, one of the representatives of the Kourth . congressional district. In a march around the hall in ono of the Wilson demonstrations Mooney and the famous Juntos It Nugent, of New Jersey, had u run in. Nugent, a Democratic political boss of Now Jersey was a bitter foe of Woodrow Wilson. He fought Wilson ,to the last. In this parade around the hall Mooney was carrying a banner, possibly a South Carolina banner, and In a halt happened to be right in front of the New Jersey delegation. This delegation was not taking part or Nugent was seeing to it that the New Jersey -banner was not being borne in the Wilson procession. Nugent was either bantered by Mooney or said something to Mooney which did not sit well and a aloe little rucus got under way which was soon ended, hut .\Joonsy came off Inst mau and got much notice in the Mnltimore papers. Columbia Planning A Sesquicentennial Columbia in planning to celebrate (be 150ib anuivepitry of ith founding uk tb? Capital City of South Carolina next March. An elaborate program, consisting of a huge pageant, balla, parades, sporting events and other celebrations, in being planned by the sosipilcentennlal coinuiission, beaded by .lames II. Hammond, former Richland' county Bcnutor. It is also planned to publish a history'of Columbia in connection with die sc8(|uiccntenniul The history will bo comprehensive, including all phusok of Columbia's development. The commission is emphasizing that the event will not bo a Columbia celebration but one of the Capital City of South Carolina and will he designated as such. All counties in the state and neighboring cities in other slates will be invited to pariielpate The pageant, to la* professionally staged by leading experts in, the nation, will portray historical events in tin- development of the Capital City, which was laid out and founded by legislative act and is ouo of tho few cities in the I nitial States to be planned in advance. A beauty pageant is also being planned, with queens from every county in the state to be invited. The sesiiuieeiitennial will begin Sunday, March 22. And on Hits day all tho churches in the city will observe special religious services.
