Now On Game Commission
Governor Olia Johnston announced
Monday the appointment of It. Charlton
Jones of Liberty Hill. Kershaw
county, to succeed former Governor
John G Richards on the state game
and fish commission.
Mr. Jones is a traveling salesman
for a foodstuff company. Mr. Richards
resigned from the commission
to become a state tax commissioner.

presided. President Ancrum gave a
brief outline of the alms of this org*
alligation und asked the cooperation
of every citizen of Kershaw county
und the city of Camden,
The biggest featuro of the evening
was the discussion of the tour which
Ih to be hold here Haturday, October
1?. from 12:00 until 1:46 by the Oaro^
Una Motor Club and The Carollnas,
Inc. The object of this tour, which
will Include uhout 60 people from the
two organizations, Is for a method of
merchandising our ellinate, resorts,
historic and scenic points, hotels and
the like, by actually demonstrating
these points to tho Eastern Travel
Agencies and to the directors of our
larger Motor Clubs In the Northeast
und West, who direct the mujorlty of
American travel. This will mean
much to Camden as It will bring muny'
tourists here who have never been
here, thus helping the merchants tremendously.
Oars were solicited to
meet the delegation ut the Watereo
bridge at 12 o'clock promptly. The
billowing men offered their cars: John
Davidson, Kalph Shannon, W, P.
Heath, Jr., M. 11. Hums, J. W. Cantey,
Dr. H. F. UruHlngtpu, Tom Ancrum,
John Vllloplguo, Nettles Lindsay, Kennedy

Two or three delegates will be carried
in ouch car and Bhown the Interesting
places of Camden and the i
surrounding territory. Thoy will then
be taken to the Sarsflehl Golf Club
where the town of Camden will enter
tain the party at lunch.
John (leivoach, ex-president of the
Chamber of Commerce, thou gave a
most Interesting talk on the uchlevements
of the organization during his
regime and urged tho people of Camden
to support it and make It a
worthwhile organization. #r-? v
Rev. J. II. Cuslon made the suggestion
that a spot in Camden, possibly
a park or tree, would he timely to
dedicate to Samuel Russell, who was
truly a friend to Camden. A committee
composed of John VUleplgue, Rev.
Caston and Henry Savage, Jr., was
1 appointed to look Into the matter.
The question of raising imjney for
the Chamber of Commerce was discussed,
und it was stated that a very
liberal donation had already been given
by the city, and the county delegation
pledged their support for the
county.
\V. F, Nettles urged the Chamber
of Commerce to bark the 1936 State
Fire Convention which Is to be held
here next summer. R. M. Kennedy,
Jr., stutcd that if the city of Camden
wanted the. South Carolina Insurance
Agency Association to hold their meeting
here they would possibly come if
Invited, und he urged the heads of
the different organizations of Camden
to invite them.
Mr. Kennedy made a motion to Impress
upon tlie tourists of Camden
that they are cordially invited here
and that they are invited here bocause
we want them and not because
we want to tax. them to death. This
motion was succeeded by J. \V. Cantey.
W. P. Heath gave a few splendid
advertising suggestions?advertise our
polo games in the leading -papers of
the Carollnas, announce our Carolina
Cup Races over the radio stations.
Many of the leading citizens there
pledged their support to the Chamber
of Commerce. Thus we are going to
boost Camden to the limit and make
it a bigger and better town to live in.
Held First Meeting
The Pine drove school improvement
association held its first regular meeting
at Pine drove school house Friday
evening, October 3, at 2 o'clock,
with thirty'members in attendance.

orator ha* accepted an invitation to
address the Exchange Club at It'?
weekly meeting next Tuesday. Mr.
Timmerman la one of the state's moat
gifted speakers. He has delivered the
keynote addresses at a number of
the titate Democratic Convention* and
la in much demand for addressee ull
over the state. When quite a young
man Mr, Tlminerman waa Solicitor of
thla circuit which then embraced
much more territory than It does now.
Ho la a member of the Btate High
way Commission and will no doubt
have something interesting to say
with reference to the differences between
that body and the Governor.
Hog prices on the Chicago market
on Tueaday were $10.90 per hundred
weight, $1.86 per hundred lesa than

Attended Orangeburg Meeting
J. M. HofTer, optometrist, of the
Horror Company, attended the blmonth
meeting of the ceiftral zone of
the Mouth Carolina optpmetric association
held In Orangeburg Thursday
night, Dr. Hoffer along with several
other optometrist of the central zone
took purt oh the program.
In the federal court at Greenville,
the case against John W. Harris, Jr.,
former Wofford college professor, at
Spartanburg, was stricken from the
docket, as no indictment had been ob'
tained within the limitation of three
years from the alleged offense of embezzling
$3,470 from an incompetent
World war veteran, whose guardian
Harris was.
