DARLINGTON HOMICIDE Father of Seven Children Is 8hot to Death Darlington, June 24.?An inquest will be be held into the death of l.nvern Floyd, 40. father of seven children, who wan shot to death about Saturday midnight in the Palmetto section of Darlington county. Officers arrested Fit/, Hugh Langstun. 3?>. and charged him with the slaying, officers quoted Langston us saying: "I had to do it in self defense to protect my home and myself." The shooting occurred in the edge of a woods near Langston's homo. Floyd was shot in the right lung and died almost instantly. Fred H. Turner, 33, of Charlotte, and Miss Ruth Christine Randall, popular young woman of Cramorton, N. C., lost their lives Tuesday night when the car they were in crashed through the guard rail of the bridge across the south fork of the Catawba river near CameiTui. The bodies were recovered Wednesday morning. Baby On Front Porch It L. Garland, former county commissioner, who lives four miles south of Jefferson Highway No. J5, was awakened early Sunday morning, at labour 4:JO o'clock by the crying of a baby. <,()n Investigating he found a small pasteboard box on Iris front porch, from which the sounds seemed I to eminate. On closer inspection he j found it brand new baby. Mr Garland took the infant in, then sent for a nurse and a physician. Later the police were notified, and within a few hours the mother was located eight miles away. She is said to have explained her actions by saying slwj wished a better home for the i ! child than she could provide. Ou her agreement to take the child and provide for it as best she could tho officers withdrew from the case.?
