Members of the 1). C. O. C. club
were guests of Miss Jean V a nil andingham
'Saturday afternoon. There
was an extra, table of friends invited
to play with the three tables of club
(members. An Faster motif was used
in all the party appointments. Because
it was the binthxkxy of Miss
Carolyn Oantey the hostess presented
her a dainty gift. The prize for
high score went .to Miss Ixma Stevenson
and the one for low score U> Miss
Margaret Osborne, while Miss Nancy
Watts won the floating prize.
Spinster's Entertained
Miss Dolly Singleton entertained
the members of the Spinster's club
Monday evening at her home on Union
street. Only club members were
present, there being two tables in
play. Miss Caroline ltiohardson was
winner of the top score prize. The
hostess served delightful refreshInvents

Met With Mrs. Truesdale
The DeKalb Home Demonstration
Club held it's month of April meeting
Tuesday at 3 o'clock at the home
of Mrs. Sam Truesdale. The meeting
was called to order by the president.
Devotional was conducted by Mrs.
Curtis Ogburn, after which Miss Margaret
FeweH, the Home Agent took
charge. Business of the club was
discussed and disposed of. A large
number of members were present, it
being a very enjoyable occasion. At
the conclusion Mrs. Truesdale served
a delightful sweet course. The May
meeting will be held at the home of
Mrs. Shelby Truesdale. Visitors are
especial 1 y -welcome.
Auxiliary To Sell Poppies
Saturday, May 25th, will be Poppy
Day in Camden. On that day the
women of James Leroy Belk Unit of
the American Legion Auxiliary will
distribute little red -poppies on- the
streets to be worn in honor of the
World War dead. The observance
here will be part of the annual nation-wide
observance of Poppy Day,
during which millions of Americans
| will pay tribute to the memory of
the war dead by wearing memorial
poppie-s.
Poppy Day activities here will be
directed by a committee from the
Auxiliary. A large corps of volunteer
workers will be organized to
carry out the distribution of the
llowers.
The poppies which will be worn
here have been ordered. They have
been made by disabled World War
veterans. The poppy making has provided
employment for needy veterans
through the winter and spring
months, enabling thorn to help support
themselves and families. Public
response on Poppy Day will determine
how soon and how extensively
thus work can bo re-opened.
In exchange for the poppies, the
Auxiliary women will ask each person
to make a contribution for the welfare
of the war's living victims, the
disabled veterans, the widows and the
fatherless children of veterans. Thi?
money will be used entirely in the
welfare work of the Legion Auxiliary,
the bulk of it in the work of the local
Post and Unit. ? - - Vacancies

by the President, with the advice
and consent of the Senate and
the term is for life.

President Roosevelt has taken
eleventh-hour steps in an clfort to
forestall the threatened strike of rubber
workers in the Akron, Ohio, area,
involving some .'15,000 woVkers. The
union leaders of the pending: strike,
are not giving- out what e<fec-t the
president's efforts may have.

Death Of An Infant
The friends of Mr. and Mra, Karlio
Anderson, of ftllio Beaver Dam section,
sorrow with them in the death of
their young1 son, Oloo Anderson,
which occurred on April 15. Ho was
