Section VIL The license on any
business or occupation not named in
the foregoing schedule shall be fixed

Section VIII. Wherever in this ordinance,
the terms, "persons, firm,
company, corporation or party" arc
used, the same shall include not only
it he principals, but in their absence
shall include any agent, clerk or employee
having charge, management
or control of t'he business, calling, occupation
or profession referred to,
and such agent, clerk or employee
shall be subject .to the penalities herein
imposed for failure to comply
with the terms and requirements of
this ordinance, in the same manner as
if he, she or they were principals or
proprietors.
Section IX. This ordinance shall
go into effect on and from the first
day of May A. 'D. 1935 and all ordinances
or parts of ordinances in
conflict herewith are hereby repealed.
Done and ratified in Oouncil assembled,
under the corporate seal of
the City of Camden, S. C., this the

The Real Thing
After the play the dramatist was
being congratulated by his friends.

The dramatist looked cautiously
round and then whispered, "I didn't
invent him. He is really a combination
of all the thing? my wife has

Lawson A. Adair was sentenced to
15 years and Horace J. Salsor, was
given 12 years, for robbery of a bank
at Sylacauga, Ala., December 17.

j and passed away quickly. lie had
; not been so well in quite a while but
J had not been confined to his bod and ;
j his death so suddenly was wholly unexpected.

Funeral services were conducted at
Mt. Pisgah Baptist cfhurch, of which
Mr, Johnson was a member, ami the
services was conducted by his pas- j
tor, Rev. Luther Knight, Rev. W. V.'
Jerman, pastor of the Methodist
Church at Uethune participating.
Before removing to Oaswatt, Mr.
Johnson was a large planter of the
Mt. Piwgah section, where for a long
number of years he was a member
of the board of school trustees and
served in other capacities as un in(luential
citizen. After leaving Mt.
Pisgah he moved to Camden where
| he served as bridge-keej>er at the
Watoree Loll britige, prior to his removal
to (lassatt. Ho possessed a
wide circle of friends ami acquaintances
here and elsewhere who regret
his passing. .
Mr. Johnson was twice married and
is survived by his widow, also by two
sons ami three daughters by has first
wife. They are J. B. John-son, M. P.
Johnson, Mrs. Ira B. Catoe, Mrs. Lizzie
Johnson, all of the Buffalo section,
and Muss Bertha Johnson, of Sanatorium,
N. C., who hold a position
as registered nurse at that place.
The body of a negro identified as 1
William Wallace, who scaled the state
penitentiary wall a week ago, in an
escape with two companions, was discovered
this week floating in the Columbia
canal near the prison.
Drunken automobile drivers are
given sentences of throe years in jail
when they appear in courts in Philadelphia.
Judge Lane says that future
i drunken drivers coming before him
will get the same sentences.

At the beginning of our fiscal year'
the Junior Welfare l/eague completed!
an untimshed constitution, drew up
and adopted by-laws and sent a ropy
to each member of the League. La

A new committee added this year
is that of "Arts ami Interests" ami
through this committee we ho|>e to
contribute to the cultural life of the
community. As a step in this duoction
the organization presented a
children's play, "The Steadfast Tin
Soldier," ami through the generosity
of a long list of patrons admitted
4K7 underprivileged children free of
charge. Members of the Ia?ague have
read stories to children at tin* Cum?k?n
Public Library on Thursday afternoon#
and have offered their services
m distributing l>ooks to the hospital
and to the county. At the request
of Mrs. K. W. Watts, county
s'upenrvteiiidenet of education, a commit
t< e decorated a Moat for the county
fair.
In addition to our regular tonsil
clinic work and our monthly contri-,
hut ion of $10 to the Children's Home1
we have contributed the following:
Old shoes ami clothing for Rod Cross
distribution, baby clothes to a needy
colored woman, sleeping garments to
State Park Sanatorium, $5.00 for a
T. H. health bond, $2.50 to help pay
for repairing broken toys for Christmas
distribution, milk stmt daily to
two families of undernourished children,
aiul clothing, toys and food as
our Christmas gift to a needy family.
We also gave our services in the
sale of T. B. sales at Christmas time
ami have offered our services for the
anti-diphtheria clinic.
We are delighted to rej>ort that we
shall be able to remove the tonsils of
forty children this spring, the largest
in the history of the League.
During the year 1931 and 1935 we
have cleared $797.(51 as follows: Dues
and fines $30.75; Merchants' Association
supper $1.55; benefit movies
$01710; childrens play, "Steadfast Tin
Soldier." $188.18; sandwiches, drinks
and programs at February races $79.59;
Montaldo's exhibit $1(5.00; Carolina

of a small amount to be used 1

for children's welfare.

of the general education board
of the Baptist denomination in the
state. Dr. Allen has been at Furman
one year.
