"Cannibal" Game
Ends In Tragedy
Jirockion, Mass., March 13.?Little
Eddie Smith was borne to his grave
today by six playmates who had
burned him at the stake during a
game of "cannibals."
At the grave the six boys who tied
Eddie to a tree last Saturday and
built at his feet a fire which they
could not control, were urged by the
Rev. \V. F. Maciaszek in his funeral
sermon to learn a lesson from the
tragedy.
Though still under investigation,
Eodie's death had been declared an
accident. But his dying words?that
his playmates had dragged him to
the tree against his will?so embittered
his mother that she first refused
to allow the boys to serve as pallbearers.
Only after the priest had
pleaded with her did .she capitulate.
Silas Bounds, who died and was

contractor. 84 years old. who first

ag". He leaves two daughters in
Bennettsville. by his first wife who
was a native of that city. His second
wife. Miss Ella Johnson of Marc-n.
