Lieutenant Governor James Sheppard
was the guest speaker nt the
meeting yesterday of the Camden
Rotary Club. ' Ix>on Schlosburg had
the program in charge. The speaker
was introduced by A. S. Llewelyn.
Mr. Sheppard spoke on the advantage
we can expect- from the NRA
program. He,said we should have a
permanent recovery from depression
if everything worked out as ofTtcials

Held Memorial Meeting
At the regular monthly meeting of j
the James Leroy Belk I'ost No. 17,
American Legion, held Monday evening,
with Commander W, M. Alexander
presiding and L. L. Wallnau,
secretary, in the chair, the. hour was
given over to honor the memory off
the late state commander, Richmond!
Hobson Hilton, wl?t?wns an honorary1
member of the local post.
All present were requested to rise
and stand for a two-minute silent
prayer.
Letters were read, one from Felix
(Joudelock, department adjutant, in
which he expressed the appreciation
of the South Carolina Ix'gion for the
splendid cooperation the local post
gave in making all funeral arrangements
for the late state commander,

Veterans Can Now
Join C. C. Corps
The Veterans' administration here
has received information from the
administrator of veterans' affairs that
those veterans who are now enrolled
for emergency conservation work will
be granted the privilege of enrolling
for an additional period of six months'
duration. It is contemplated that in
order to bring the veterans' contin- j
gent up to the full strength allowed,
it will be necessary to make further i
selections. Therefore, veterans desiring
to apply should communicate1
with the Veterans' administration at
the Veterans' hospital, either personally.
or by letter, and the necessary
application form will be furnished.

Those interested in forming an
active chapter of the South' Carolina
Game and Fish association are asked

to be held at the American Legion
Hall at 5:30 p. m. next Friday afternoon,

Club Held Annual Picnic
The DeKalb Home Demonstration
Club held its annual club picnic at
the camp near I^ake Shamokin on
August 0. Swimming was enjoyed,
afwA which a bountiful supper was
served.
A milk train crashed into rear
coaches of a crack Erie railroad train
near Binghampton, N. V., Tuesday
j: ght and 23 persons were killed outright
and"a hundred'or more injured,
several of them fatally. The freight
engineer said he did not see the warning
red lights of the passenger train
until too late.

He met with a painful accident several
weeks ago but has sufficiently
recuperated to return home.

The Gates Hill home demonstration
club met Saturday, September

visitors present. After some business
was discussed and finished the
meeting was then turned over to
Miss Craig, who very pleasingly
helped, them to decide upon, work
