Wasp One of Oldest and
Most Interesting Insects
The wasp la one of our ancient and
Interesting Insects, and comes of tho
order Uyiueimptcra. Naturalists usu- ;
ally classify the many species Into two ]
groups, the true wasp and the digger
wasp. The true wasp nests tire built
of clay or self made paper or within
tunnels into the wood of hollow trees,
where are built wax cells suspended
front the top and center of the nest,
writes a uatufhlisl In the Kansas City
Star.
Ivggs within the cells hatch In one
to three days into larvue, which ure
carnivorous, each species demanding
one particular kind of Insect food.
Larvae live one or two weeks, then
become dormant as pupae for two or
three weeks, changing at last Into
adult wasps. Males and workers die
at the approach of winter, only a few
females living to another season by
liuding some deserted mouse's nest
and storing it with honey and nectar.
In the spring they reappear, start nests
for eggs, the ilrst hatch bejuj^workers.
The digger, or solitary-wasp, has no
community life. It digs tunnels in the
ground, Into which is placed a single
egg, along with food, consisting of n
live Insect paralyzed by u vicious sting
in a nerve center. Mason wasps, it
has been said, possibly furnished the
pattern for the earliest pottery.

The Twelve Tribes
The twelve tribes of Israel were tho

names to two separate tribes. The
dispersal of the tribes came In 70 A.
P., when the Romans under Titus captured
Jerusalem, destroyed the Temple
and slaughtered or exiled thousands of
Jews. This dispersal had begun, however,
with the Babylonian exile about
GOO B. C.. and had continued with the
Egyptian exile. The bulk of these
exiles never returned to Palestine.?
