Notice of Election I ; , .... | State of South Carolina County of Kershaw Notice is hereby given that the general election for state and county officers will be hold at the voting precincts prescribed by law in said , Tuesday, November 8 1934, Mid day being Tuesday following the first Monday in November, as prescribed by the state constitution. rhe qualifications fqr suffrage: Managers ot election shull require of every elector offering to vote at any election, before allowing him to vote, the .production of his registration certificate and proof of the payin en t thirty days before any election of any poll tax then due and payable. 1 he production of a certificate 'or of the receipt of the officer authorized to collect such tuxes, shall bo conclusive proof of the payment thereof. Tueeday Night, Aged 78 Years Yazoo City, Miss.?Former Senator John Sharp Williams, the vitriolic "Gentleman from Mississippi" who spent a part of his boyhood fleeing a federal invasion of his state and moat of his manhood in his country's congress, died Tuesday midnight. He was 78 and wus at his old plantation home near hero with a group of ids kinsmen when the end came. He had failed fast during recent months and his death was not wholly unexpected. It was the crackling, piercing voice of John Sharp WiUiam&r--student of Heidelberg, connoisseur of beautiful tilings, planter of cotton -that helped awaken the south from the lethargy that almost smothered it after the War Between the States. The same voice commanded mighty eloquence and stinging sarcasm as it fought the battles of Woodrow Wilson in the senate during the trying days of tho league of nations light. And it was the same voice that told the senate after it doomed Wilson's measure "I'd rather be a hound dog and bay at the moon from my Mississippi plantation than remain in the United States senate." He retired from public life in 1923 ' and came home after devoting almost 30 years of his life to service in congress. Senator Williams was a statesman of the old school, an aristocrat who was descended from an illustrious line of revolutionary leaders. Ho was born in Memphis, July 30, 1854. He had a private tutor as a boy and then studied at Kentucky Military Institute, the University of the South at Sewanee, Tenn., the University of Virginia and Heidelberg, Germany. He started practicing law in 1877 and tho samo year married Dial Webb. Williams first was elected to the house of representatives in 1893 and served there for 16 consecutive years. In 1907, he was unanimously re-elected, but in 1908 was elected to tho sonate although he didn't tako his seat until 1911.
