for the afternoon. After cards the

from an attractive table with pink

of pink roses as a center decoration.

were gracious hosts Tuesday evening
when they entertained tho members
of their bridge club. Hallowe'en
novelties and flowers and long yellow
tapers beautifully decorated the dining
room living room. Preceding
the games of contract a delightful
dinner was served. Mrs. J. M.
Villepigue and J. G. Richards, Jr.,
received the high score prizes for
this series of games.

contract bridge party Wednesday afternoon
entertaining for the members
of her bridge club and Mrs.
Kidby Tupper and Mrs. A. Worley,
of .Greenville. Winners for the afternoon

guests and Mrs. G. T. Little for the
club members. A salad course was
served after the games of contract.

Among the lovely affairs of the
week was the contract bridge party
given by Mrs. F. W. Spencer Wednesday
evening. Quantities of fall flowers
and Hallowe'en decorations made

first part of the meeting was devoted i

sew dresses, shirts, and the like that
are to be made from tfe cloth given |

Cross. These garments are to be
given to needy families. ]

Objectives of the Parent-Teachers
Association,"; Mrs. Bruce on "The
Welfare of the Child" and "How the
Parent-Teachers Can Help": Mrs.

To Meet in Rock Hili
The teachers of the Fifth Congressional
District will meet in Rock Hill
on 'Saturday, Novemlber 5th. The
meeting opens at 10:30 a. m. with the
primary, grammar grades and high
school groups meeting separately.
Later in the (program all will meet
together to bear discussions of particular
interest to South Carolina
teachers.
Successful teachers and school administrators
will lead the discussions
which are planned to give practical .
help to every teacher attending the
meeting.
The Fifth District comprises the
counties of Cherokee, Chester, Fairfield,
Lancaster, York and large delegations
of teachers from each of
those counties are expected to attend.

The Rev. Roderick Jackson, who
has fecently returned from Japan,
where he has served as a missionary,
will spwk on Japan tins Sunday,
October 30th, 11:30 a. m., at the
Church of the Ascension, Hagood.
Mr. Jackson is from BennettSville,
S. C.K where he has lived before going
to the foreign field. Everyone
is cordially invited to hear him. On

Sergeant Long
Commits Suicide
Charleston, Oct. 36.?-First Sergt.
Charles W. Long of Port Moultrie,
blotted out the memory of his murdered
wife and two children yesterday
by hanging himself in the county
jail where he awaited sentence for
the, slaying. ?
Long, who was convicted of second
degree murder October 15 in the
hatchet killing of his family, had expressed
a wish to die if he was
"guilty of this crime."
The three were killed January 2 at
Fort Moultrie. A few hours later
I^Pg attempted suicide l^y slashing
his throat and cutting his wrists.
Today ho carried out his wish for
deathvin a cage where he was confined
pending .passage of sentence.
A fellow prisoner discovered Long's
body dangling by a rope from the top
of a cage located in the center of a
cell block in Charleston jail.
The Alabama senate has adopted a
resolution calling upon congress to
resist any cancellation of foreign war
debts.
