Livestock Good Bet

Clemson College, July 2.-?'Feed
crops, like most other things, are
cheap now, but the cost of marketing
these crops hus not been materially
reduced, and for this and many
other reasons, it is a good plan for
farmers to market their feed crops
through livestock, Prof. L. V. Starkey,
chief of the animal husbandry
division here, thinks.
"While meat antmals are low in
price now, tfyey are certainly not relatively
lower than feed crops, and
tbsfcft la'Wways a saje^-foc meat-producing
iwiimals," Prof. Starkey continues.
"When a farmer produces
meat animals on his farm hp may
rest assured that they will bring cash
any day he wants to put them on the
market. *'
"Hogs, cattle, and sheep have not
made 'a-killing' during the past yefcr,
but where they were produced on
home-grown feeds they have marketed
these feeds at "a reasonable price
and brought to the farm a cash income.
,So there seems to be no logical
reason why there should be a decline
in the livestock population of
South Carolina."

Former Senator Blease, in his final
speech of the week at the Moncks
Corner oratorical, senatorial candidate
meeting, said the Democratic
party will cooperate this year as it
never has cooperated before.

attending pastor's school at Columbia
college for two weeks, has returned
home.
Miss Annie Mae Robertson, of Sumter,
was a visitor here last? week.

of the former's parents.

Monday to spend a few days.

Gates Hill Club Met
Bethune, S. C., July 5.?Gates Hill
home demonstration club held its regular
monthly meeting on Friday,
July 1st, at the school house with
twenty-one members present. The
meeting was presided over by the
president. IMisa-tdadie Craig gave a
very interesting demonstration* the
subject, "Canning Budget," and she
impressed on each chib mem/ber the
need for more canning than she had
ever done Ibefore. The club was indeed
{glad to have Miss Christie Hey,
as rfhe gave a most helpful talk on
caring for and feeding the child.
