can live with lens care and attention
than any other kind of livestock, but
they make greater returns for the
money invested when properly cared
for," Bays Ted Cook, Ojemeon College
shepherd, who thinks that most
South Carolina sheep growers fail to
give their sheep the simple daily attention
they deserve. He continues:
"'Parasites give more trouble in this
state than anything else, and in hot
weather they play havoc with a flock
of sheep if not controlled.
"The stomach worm, the worst of
all parasites, can be checked by the
use of a one per cent solution of bluestone
given once a month during hot$
summer months where sheep are not
heavily infested, . and twice, a (month
where^eavily infested.
"to h<?lp keep them in healthy condition,
sheep should be dipped after
they are shorn to free them of lice
and ticks; and any cuts that occurred ,
at shearing time should be treated
with pine tar to keep the flies away.
"In hot damp weather when sheep
are on succulent pastures, the wool
.around their hind parts should be .
sheared off to prevent the sheep from
becoming . infested with maggots,
which may cause death if not attended
to,
"Another important matter during
the summer months is the proper care
of the ram. 'He should <be taken away
from the ewe flock at least a month
before breeding time, and fed a mixture
of bran and oats. This will, put
him^n good condition for the breed- /
ing season. %

ram to cross on your grade ewes.V
