lUdio Favorite To Sing
The Tuomey Hospital Auxiliary, of
Sumter, i? sponsoring an entertainment
on Friday evening, April 22nd,
>t s o'clock. At that time "Smilin'
Kd McConnell," a favorite radio singer
will he presented in a program
of songs. The entertainment will be
given at the girls' high school auditorium
in Sumter ^n^l the charge will
be fifty cents for adults and twentylive
cents for children. Tickets can
be purchased at the door or at the
Twin Fountain in McEUveen's Drug
Store in Sumter. This is an opportunity
for radio fans of the artist
to see him in person. AIL proceeds
will go towards a fund for the hospital.

On last Saturday afternoon Mrs.
Henry D, Niles was hostess at seven
tables of bridge honoring Miss Kosa
McLeod, before her departure North.
Dogwood and crabapple * blossoms
were used in decorating the rdoms
where tables { were arranged for
bridge. High score was won by Mrs.
Hughey , Tindal and Mrs. Copeland
Massey received low. To the honor
guest also a lovely reminder of the
occasion was presented. Following
the games the hostess, assisted by

?a delightful salad course.
- Celebrates Birthday With Party
On Monday afternoon Miss Virginia
Guthrie entertained thirty of her
young friends at her homo, celebrating
her eighth birthday. Many games
and contests were played during the
afternoon. Harry Clayyson won the
first prize for the boys in a ball rolling
contest, nnd Betty Stevenson won
first prize for the girls. Misses
Harriet Beard, Tommy Guthrie and
Betty Cureton Supervised the games
during the afternoon. After a most
enjoyable time the quests were served
ice cream.
Pretty Party at "Still Hope."
One of the prettiest parties of the
week was a- tea given by Mrs. L. 1.
Guion at her old home "Still Hope,"
in Columbia. Mrs. Guion's sisters,
the, Misses Guignard, who still live
at "Still Hope," assisted Mrs. Guion
in entertaining* the marry guests. In
the late afternoon the guests visited
the beautiful gardens of Mrs. Sam
Boyleston, where tea was served on
the lawn. About fifty guests from
Camden motored to Columbia for the
occasion.
Met With Miss Yates
The Thursday afternoon bridge
club was entertained last week by
Miss Ethel Yates at her home on
Broad street. In the room where
cards were played verbina, pansies
ahd Iris were used in decorating.
The substitutes for the afternoon
were: Mrs. C. Harrington Yates, Jr.,
Mrs. J. H. Guthrie and Mrs. J. K.
deLoach. The hostess served a delicious
frozen salad course after cards.

The Friday afternoon bridge club
met this week at the home of Mrs.
John deLoach. An extra table was
had for Mrs. Louis deLoach, of High
Shoals, N. C., who is visiting her
mother, Mrs. Ft M. Wooten. At Mrs.
deLoach's table were: Mrs. Nettles
Lindsay, Mrs. Henry Savage and Mrs.
C. H. Zemp. Mrs. Henry Savage won
the high score and Mrs. deLoach was
presented with a lovely guest prize.
After a most enjoyable afternoon, the
hostess served a delicious salad

Many at Dance
The Commercial Club of Camden
were boats to the Commercial Club
of Columbia at a dance and picnic
Friday night. Miss Catherine Murchison,
instructress to the Camden
Commercial class chaperoned. A local
negro orchestra played for the
dance which was held at St. Mary's
Hall.

Mrs. Chapman Barrett delightfully
entertained the Wednesday afternoon
bridge club at her home on Chesnut
street this week. In the room where
cards were played lovely spring flowers
were used. There .were no substitutes.
The hostess served delicious
cake with whipped crea^x and coffee
after cards.

The Saturday afternoon bridge club
met last week at tho home of Mrs. J.
T., Hay at Boykin. An extra table
was had for Mrs. W. L. Wooten. At
Mrs. Wooten's table was Mrs. W. L.
DePass, Mrs. W. H. Harris and Mfs.
Willis Cantey. The honor guest was
presented with a lovely box oX handkerchiefs.

course of sandwiches, cookies
and coffee after cards.

will meet at the hospital on Monday,
April 25, at four o'clock in the afternoon.

Results of student elections held
at Winthrop yesterday afternoon
were announced today. Officers elected
are to serve during the school term
1932-1933.

Barnes were married on Saturday afternoon,
April 1G, at the Methodist
parsonage, . the Rev. Warren G.
Ariail officiated. The bride was becomingly
attired in an ensemble of
melloW brown and beige with accessories
to match. The couple left immediately
after the ceremony by motot,
on a short wedding trip, after
which they will be at home to their
friends here.
The bride is the eldest daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. S. B. Hall, of Camden,
and she is a graduate of the Camden
high school and the Camden hospital
and Training School for Nurses. During
the past two years she has been
making her home in Paw Creek,' N.
C. She is an attractive and talented
young woman. The groom is a native
of Camden and is an employee
of the Wateree Division of the Kendall
Mills.

A wedding of - interest to friends
of the bride aiM^bridegroona in Camden
and Aiken, and Saratoga Springs,
New York, was solemnized at the
home of Rev. J. B. Caston on the
evening of April 12, when Miss Lena
Mae Jennings became the wife of!
Woodrow W. Garvin, of Aiken. Only
immediate families and intimate
friends were in attendance. The
bride's only attendant was her sister,
Louise Doby Jennings.
Mr. and Mrs. Garvin left immediately
after the wedding for Columbia
and Aiken. They will spend the summer
in Saratoga Springs, New York,
and will return to Camden next fall.

Langston?Pitts Marriage
Miss Geneva Pitts, of Bethune, became
the "bride of Clayton Langston,
corporation clerk of the South Carolina
state treasurer's office, at a quiet
ceremony Saturday afternoon at G
o'clock in Camden. The reremnny.
which was witnessed by a small
group of friends and relatives, took
place at the "homo of the Rev. Mr.'
Caston. pastor of the First Baptist
church, Mr. Caston being the officiating
clergyman.
Mrs. Langston attended Winthrop
college and ^tfter a year's training
as a nurse at the Columbia hospital,
took a business course at Draughon's
Business college. Later she worked
for two years as a clerk at General

After a brief trip to North Caro-j
lina, Mr. and Mrs. Langston will return
to Columbia and make their

Miss Dolly Singleton delightfully
entertained the Spinsters' bridge club
this week at her home on Fair street.
An extra table whs had for Miss Bee
McCarrell, a bride-elect. Playing at
Miss McCarrell's table were Misses
Helen Savage, Hallie Carson, Margaret
Mills. Miss Carson won the
high score at the guest table, and
Miss Thomasia Guthrie - won - high
score for the club. After e?rds the
hostess served a delicious course of
cookies, cake and coffee.

Wolf Patrol^Meeting
The Wolf Patrol of the Boy Scouts
met at the patrol house Monday at
8 p. m. Seven members were present:
Jack Rhaine, Otis Creed, Billy
DeLoache, Henry Garrison, Jr., Bill
Sheorn, McKain Richards and Billy
Baum. Dan Garrison, senior patrol
leader, and Walter Rhame, assistant
Scoutmaster, wore present as guests,
The meeting was opened with the
Lord's Prayer and the Scout Oath.
Otis Creed, Bill DeLoaeho and Henry
Garrison passed their tenderfoot test.
Bill Sheorn and McKain Richards
passed part of their second class first
aid. It was decided that two people
should furnish refreshments from
now on instead of one person. Jack
Rhame furnished refreshments and.
everyone enjoyed them heartily.
The meeting was closed with the
Great Scoutmaster's Benediction.
