James Wesley Sharpe, 17, a former
veterinarian practicing in ( a in den

liria. died at his home in Columbia
'Monday morning. He is survived by
his widow, father and six brothers

Officers Capture
Car And Liquor
City polite officers DeHruhl and
Karnes sighted a liquor laden Chevrolet
?port sedan Tuesday night on
west DeKalb street and gave chase in
tha JJeBruhl car. It was chased on
into Broad street where it took the
highway towards I>ancaster.
As tqe officers' car neared the
bootlpggm' car the Chevrolet would
cut tfi fVont and tried to force the
officers into the ditch. They were
also using a new ruse in their flight.
Every few yards they would drop behind
them a q^iece of short timber
filled with- nails.
As a last resort the officers began
firing at the tires and a survey of the
car showed that nine bullets took effect
before the blown out tires forced
them" to abandon the car and take
leg flight. The officers captured about
fifteen gallons of corn whiskey,
but the bootleggers had thrown quite
a bit of It into the road while attempting
escape.
- The CAT has been turned over to
Sheriff McLeod and is still in his possession.
A white woman from Hock
Hill came to Camden the following
day to lay claim to the auto, saying
that the two men borrowed the car
from her. The sheriff, however, still
holds the car,

The Chronicle last week overlooked
the fact that Camden had a second
primary that week in a run-off between
S. W. VanLandingham and F.
N. McCorkle. Mr. VanLandingham
was re-nominated from Ward Three
by a majority of 19 votes. The final
vote was VanLandingham 179, McCorkle
160.
Fire Destroys Dormitory
Fire early this morning destroyed
McGowan Hall, main dormitory for
men at Morris "College. The loss is
estimated at $25,000, only partially
covered by insurance.?Wednesday's
Sumter Item.
The discovery of valuable cinnibar
