Liquor Informer
Beaten To Death
Florsncc* Jan- 30.?The beating to
death with an axe of a prohibition
informer within 100 yard* of a still
he had a part in raiding furnished a
perplexing mystery today for county <
and federal authorities to solve. ,
The body of the informer, W. B.
Kirven, 47, was found yesterday a
short time after he bad gone with
three federal prohibition agents to
the vicinity of the still.
After destroying the liquor plant,
the off tears, J. C. ttairley, J. I. Worrell
and J. K. Andrews, returned to
Florence. They missed Kirven but
said they supposed he already had
returned to the city.
When Kirven failed to show up,
they went back to look for him but
jn the meantime a resident of the
community had discovered his body.
The head was battered in and a
bloody axe was lying nearby.
The officers said they believed a
moonshiner, possibly a watcher at the
still, attacked and killed Kirven. They
said that althmigh whisky was running
over the Druh"~of a jar at the
tlf^ip pipe, they found no one at' the
still when they destroyed it.
Sheriff's deputies said they understood
Kirven, who had acted as aninformer
for eourity and federal officers,
had received a number of
threats recently. They indicated they
had clues they hoped would solve
the slaying but declined to disclose
them.
Coroner Thomas W. Wallace empanelled
a jury but deferred holding
an inquest until a more complete
investigation had been made.
Kirven, a former resident of Darlington
county, is survived by his
widow and several children.

The legislatures of Louisiana and
Mississippi have repealed the hastily
passed laws intended to restrict the
planting of cotton, leaving Texas,
Arkansas and iSouth Carolina as the
only states now having laws intended
to restrict acreage this year in the
hope of boosting the price of cottph.
The South Carolina law is virtually
dead by reason of the faeb that it was
conditioned on 75 per cent of the other

A Triumph in Heating Efficiency/
No matter what fuel you use, the same amount
of heat is necessary to cook or bake. Cool, clean
cooking is not a matter of the fuel, but of the
^ range. When your Kitchen is equipped with a
New Majestic the heat is held" inside, in and
around tl>e cooking compartments?instead of
being wasted in the room. This result has been
sought for years, and has at last been attained.
Clean, Cool Cooking
The user of the Majestic Range has a cool, comfortable
kitchen because the heat is scientifically
concentrated on the work to be done, instead
of being spread around the room. She has a
clean kitchen ^because the Range is both heatand
dust-tight, and stays that way. And she
has a beautiful kitchen because these Majestic
Ranges are finished in all-enamel to match any
color scheme, giving a bright, cheerful'room
that it's a pleasure to work in.
Latest Construction
ATI The latest ideas of modern Kitchen Range
design have gone into this New Majestic. Its
makers, as you may know, are one of the oldest f ,
and most successful concerns in their line. For
many years they have steadily improved their y
Ranges in cooking efficiency, in convenience and \
in appearance. You will notice the practical advantages
of the solid, polished top cooking plate,
the sanitary shelf, the easy clean-out features, j
the removable doors and stakes, and the precisely
fitting doors and other parts?as well as
the beautiful design and finish. J
