Guthrie. j BnterUined at Gr*m Gablea r Wednesday evening Mies Etta L. Bobbins and Mis* Annie Williams, were hostesses at the monthly meeting of the Camden hospital alumni. The meeting was held in the attractive rooms of Creep Gables. Miss 'Williams, president of the association, presided and Miss Eva Kelley, secretary read the minuteg,_gnd reports. After business was put aside a social hour was enjoyed and coffee, sandwiches and cakes were served. This association meets monthly and the next meeting will be on l>eeemjbor 15th, with Miss Amelia McDowell apd Mrs. JL*T. Haynes as hostesses. Had Quilting Parties Old time Aunt Dinah's quilting parties were held at the home of Mrs. H. M. Sill, on Lyttleton street, Wednesday and Thursday. Lunch was served at noontime. The patchwork pieces were finished and turned ,over to Mrs. P. Leslie Zemp, wtho finished the quilt. The quilts will be sent to Thornwell Orphanage, at Clinton, at an early date. Camden Man to Wed Miss Mary Jarman, formerly director of music at the Wardlaw Junior .high school here, will be married oh December 17 in Manila itO" Lieut, ^[ohn E. Nelson, now stationed at Port McKinley. Miss Jar-^ man has left for San Frlfncisco and she wil^ take an army transport from there for the Philippines. Miss Jarman is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. L. Wilson Jarman, of Staunton, Va., where Dr. Jarman is president of .Mary Baldwin college. Lieutenant Nelson is a West Point graduate and for four years, prior to being sent oh foreign service in the Philippines, he was connected with the army recruiting office here. Book Club Met Thursday The Kirkwood Book Club held its regular monthly meeting- Thursday with Mrs. John T. Mackey at Green Gables Coffee House. After books were exchanged, a social meeting was held. "7 "IT Bethune News Notes Told by Correspondent Bethune, Nov, 24.-?Centering the, interest of a large number of friends and acquaintances was the wedding of Miss Malloy Hearon and Tom Burley, Which was solemnised at sixthirty o'clock Saturday afternoon at the home of the bride's mother. Mrs. J. W. Hearon. l , The guests were greeted at the door by Mrs. Winnie Beattie and ushered into the ceremony room which was beautifully arranged with silver baskets of white chrysanthemums, ferns and candles in silver and brass holders. Juq.t before the ceremony, Mrs. J. B. Lucas and Mrs, T. E. Sanders, aunts 'of the bride, lighted the earn! les, "For You" was sung hy 'Mrs. Luring Davis, ami Miss Gladys Hurley sang "I Love You Truly." Miss Mary Beattie was the accompanist. The bridal party entered as Lohengrin's wedding match was softly played by Miss Mary Beattie. Miss Margaret Hearon, sister of the bride, came first. She wore a lovely 'gown of sky blue and curried chrysanthemums tied With slived ribbon and tulle. Then entered the dainty little ring bearer wearing a nink dross and carrying the ring in the heart of a white chrysanthemum. The bride, on the arm of her father, Mr. T. E, Hearon, was met at the door of the ceremony room by ?th<; groom with 'his bestt man, Charlie Jtioulware, of Winnsboro. Before an improvised altar of stately ferns, lighted with tall cathedral candles the vows were spoken. The Rev. M. B. Gunter officiated nnd the impressive ring ceremony was used. MaoDowell's "To a"-Wild Rose" was softly played during the ceremohy. The bri.de, a petite brunette, was lovely in a gown of brown touched with salmon pink satin, Her hat, a close fitting model of brown, was worn with a small veil. All accessories were of 'harmonizing color. She carried, a bouquet of pink' rosebuds tied with tulle. Mrs. Burley is a very attractive member o? the young social set of Bethune. She attended Winthrqp and Chicaro colleges. Her charming .personality has endeared her to a host df friends. Mr. Hurley is a well-known young man of Winnsboro. For the past few years he has been connected with the Slatfc Highway department. After the wedding a delightful reception was held. The rooms were decorated in beautifully shaded pink and white chrysanthemums. Block ice cream and cake, carrying out a color scheme of pink and white, were served by Misses Marian Beattie, Nivia and Catherine-Lucas. During the reception Mr. and Mrs. Burley slipped away for a brief honeymoon. The out-of-town guests included Mrs. J. B. Burley, mother of the groom, Mr. and Mrs. H. G. Wylie and Tittle daughter, Marjorie; Mr. and Mrs. D. R. Coleman, Jr., Miss Gladys Burley and Mr. Charlie Boulware, of Winnsboro(|F Miss Lizzie Kate Davis, of Kershaw; Mrs. G. G. Williams1 last Wednesday afternoon. Mrs. Williams, the president, presided. The ritual, a prayer and* the singing of a hymn were used in the opening exercises. Following the business session an interesting program in charge of the historian, Mrs. E. Z. Truesdale, was given" as follows: Some facts in regard to - the - life- of A. P. Hill; -a sketch on Sherman's march to the sea; a group of World war songs by Mrs. T. R. Bethune and Miss Stella Bethune, accompanied by Mrs; R. E. McCaskill. : During the social hour a salad course further emphasizing the color scheme of yellow and green used in the decorations, and hot coffee were served, by the hostess. Mr. John McCaskill has returned from a visit to his daughter, Mrs. J. G. Richards; o, ii. c. Miss, Patty Epps, of Ridgeland, was the week end guest in the home of Mrs. J. W. Hearon. Mr. and Mrs. John McSween, of Darlington, 'have been spending some time with their daughter, Mrs. Clara Davis. Miss Stella Bethune spent the week end with her sister, Mrs. Mark King, at Neeses. Gregg King, of Presbyterian college, was at home for the week end. Mrs. J. B. Burley, of Winnsboro, returned home Mnoday after spending several days-with Mr^s J. W.Hearon. The F.pworth league gave an oyster supper at the King-Davis hotel last Friday evening. Sho\.or Given Home The annual tea and shower was given at the Children s Home on iower Fair street ok Wednesday afternoon of last week. Ijarjre | of yellow chrysanthemums decorated: the living room and dining room where the guests were entertained. Tea and crackers were served by the Service League girls, tea being poured by Mrs. B. M. Smith, a mem- j ber of the Welfare League. ' The at- i tractive little girls and boys in the home were also hosts for the afternoon. The president, Mrs. W. J. Mayfield, and the treasurer, Mr. j Warren H. Harris, are extremely grateful for the very generous help and wonderful contributions to the home. It is impossible to thank each person individually so they are using this means in expressing their deep appreciation for the splendid support which haa been given them. The Misses Jones, of Lancaster, apent last Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Dan M. Guessing the number of beans in the bottlp, Betty Stevenson got the prize for the girls,- Ned McDowell, Jr., for the boys and Katherine Shedrn got the booby. For tho best stunt, Billy Clrakson was winner. After the games the little guests were invited into the dining room, where a color scheme of pink and white was attractively carried out. The centerpiece, a dainty white birthday cake, held seven pink tapers and : pink candles in silver holders burned ] at each ?nd of the table. Lit tie pink j baskets filled with candy were placed! at each'little guest's place. Mrs. Tjndal, assisted by her daughter, Helen Tindal, served delicious ice cream and cake, further carrying out the pink and white color scheme., Mrs. C. C.
