Mrs. Oato Glover gave a lovely
children's party Friday afternoon in
honor of the sixth birthday of her
daughter, Bland. The pretty affair
assembled a group of girls and boys J
to enjoy the afternoon with the honor j
guest and games and contests were
enjoyed, Prizes were awarded to
Betty Muller and Henrietta McDowell.
After the games the guests were
invited into the dining room, where
color scheme of green and yellow
was effectively carried out. The
table was centered with a large birthday
cake upon which burned six yellow
candles. Hot supper was served,
followed by ice cream and cake in the
party colors. Thos^ present were:

Entertains Club
Mrs. J. L. Williford was_hostess on
Wednesday at her bridge club having
an extra table for Mrs. Carroll
DesChamps, Mrs. Julian Queen, Mrs.
Garwood Jaynes and Mrs. W. L.
Wooten. The high score prize for the
club was won by Mrs. Hughey Tindal
and the guest prize went to Mrs.
DesChamps. A delicious salad course
followed by frozen watermelon was
served before the games of bridge.

Jack (Legs) Diamond, New York
beer baron and racketeer, convicted
in New York on a charge of violating
the prohibition laws, has been given
a sentence of four years in the Atlanta
Federal prison and a fine of
$11,000. Paul Qunttrochi, Diamond's
partner,, was aentenced to two years
and a $6,000 fine.
A collie dog, jumping through an
open window at Southern Pines, N.
<5., prevented an attack on his mistress
by a negro who had gone
through the window and attempted
to assault the woman. The negro fled
when the dog arrived.
Henry Grace is held by the police
of St. Petersburg, Fla., on a charge of
shooting his 5-year-old daughter,
Grace attempted to-shoot his wife,
and when she grabbed him the pistol
was fired, the bullet 'striking the
child.

the statement that more than $11,000,000,000
are borrowed year in
small amounts by people from banks,
finance companies, pawn brokers and
