he will join Mrs. Ruth Bryan Owen's
party there for a trip to Europe.

On last Saturday afternoon Miss
Tillie Geisenheimer entertained in
honor of Miss Louise Hirsch, who is
a bride-elect of this month. The
rooms of Miss .Geisenheimer's home
were especially lovely with many

Spartanburg blew on' a man hole,

iSheriff Ray C^oGyer, of Cabarrus'
county, N. C., waa seriously shot Saturday
night by Record Polk, a negro,
who surrendered Sunday morning at
the county jail at Concord. The
shooting occurred at a filling station,
where the negro is alleged to have
gone with the intention of killing the
proprietor. The- sheriff shot-?t-the
negro, who returned the fire with a
shot gun, hitting the sheriff in tho
legs.
