The theft was commit.cd iu December, the officer stated, but the negroes disappeared immediately afterwards and did not return to their homes until Wednesday. The negioes arrested were: Dock Mayrnnt, Cherry Murphy, Jolly Ropat, Jake Reynolds and Seborn Waters. All except Waters pleaded guilty to the c bangle before Magistrate Vinson- ?t Humbert late Wednesday afternoon, asvd each one was sentenced to piry a Cine of $15 or servo 30 days on the chain gang. Sportsmen generally attributed the 1 scarcity of ducks in the interior \ states to lack of water, which caused the ducks to make non-stop flights ' for^ their winter havens. The lack of quail, however, was not so easily ex- ? plained as the dry summer supposedly offered idea) weather for the young broods. The gloomy yeaf just ended brought one bright ray of hope, however, the officials of the game as so- j ciation pointed out, and it seems ilikely that 1930 may go down in sportsmen's history as the year which saw the setting of the stage for the restoration of abundant game in ever> part of the country. This hope, the officials explained, ( is based on the adoption of a new 1 American Game Policy at the Ameri- | can Gume Conference in Now York, * on December 2. Scott, who turned' over the office of probate judge of Greenville county to Guy A.
