The center decoration was of pink roses and silver ] candlesticks held pink tapers. Miss Kit DeLoache and Miss Tatsy Whit- i aker received the guests at the door. Penney Store Here Host. The members of the Palmetto Pep flub of the Camden branch of J. C. Penney Co?rt5any^ entertained the members from the other J. C. Penney stores in this district, namely: Columbia, Florence and Sumter, on Thursday evening. The meeting was held in the Legion Hall on _ DfcKalb street and about sixty were present. The hall was attractively decorated in the Penney colors of gold and hlack and bowls of marigolds, golden glows and sunflowers were placed about the hall. The refreshments also carried out these colors as well as the fancy aprons and attractive caps worn by the winsome waitresses, Mr. Martin 'of the Columbia store opened the meeting with a short prayer. Following this was a short ta;k by Mr. Williams, of the Camden st?re. Other talks were given by the following managers: Mr. Needham, Columbia; Mr. Hart, of Florence; Rutledge, of Sumter. Several Interesting talks given by mem^ ?f the club. The business meetlasted until 9:30 at which time a short entertainment was staged by number- of the local store. Miss Eleanor Kable, of Richmond, Va., who has been the guest of Mrs. Robert Marye for the past week, returned home on Tuesday morning. Mr. Henry D. Green has returned from an encampment of the R. O. T. C. held at Fort Moultrife. Mr. Green holds a first lieutenancy in this organization. Mr. A. S. Karesh spent last week end in Hendersonville. He was accompanied home by Mrs. Karesh and children, who have been spending several months there. Mrs. Henry Savage, Jr., has returned from Hendersonville, N. C., where she has been spending the past two weeks with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Anderson. Mr. and Mrs. L. H. Myers and son visited relatives in High Point, N. C\, the past week end. They were accompanied home by Miss Estelle Myers, who had been on a visit to that city. . Mrs. Fred Parham and son, who have been visiting the former s parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. A. West, left Saturday for Philadelphia where she will join Mr. Parham, where they will reside in the future. Mr. and Mrs. W. T. Stewart and Mr. C. C. Vaughn left by motor Wednesday for Columbia, Pa., the summer home of Mr. and Mrs. Stewart, where they will spend several weeks. Mr. Vaughn will return in about a week. Misr-Annie Royal and Mr. Osgood Hamlin, o^. Mt. Pleasant, returned home this week after spending some time here at the home of Mrs. F. Had Square Dance A delightful square dance was giv:n Tuesday night of last week by the Kershaw County Council of Farm Yomen at the camp grounds recently :onstructed by them about five niles North of Camden. The buildngs are situated in a beautiful pine jrove and the hall where the dance vas held was spacious enough for ihose taking part in the sets and for the onlookers too. Music was furnished by Mr. W. T. Dempster and his fiddlers. Cold drinks were on sale during the evening. These lances will be given weekly by the Council of Farm Women of Kershaw :ounty and the proceeds derived :herefrom will be used toward a scholarship for a club girl to Winthrop College. A cordial invitation is extended all those who like to take part in or witness old time square dances. Nettles?Bradshaw LugofT, S. C., Aug. 21.?A wedding of interest was that of Miss Sern Nettles to Dr. Henry David Bradshaw, of Pelahotchee, Miss. The wedding was solemnized at Lugoff, the home of the brides parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hiram Nettles, Thursday, at twelve o'clock. The vows were spoken before an altar of ferns and flowers, the Rev. J. B. Caston, pastor of the Camden Baptist church performing the ceremony.. Mrs. Bradshaw received her education in Camden and Columbia. Dr. Bradshaw is the son of Senator and Mrs. H. W. Bradshaw, of Pelahotchee, Miss. He graduated at Auburn, Ala., and has been with the U. S. department of agriculture in Columbia for the last three years. * Mr. and Mrs. Bradshaw left by motor for Starkville, where Dr. Bradshaw will become a member of the faculty of the state college of Mississippi. Young Set Enjoyed Movie Party Miss Katherine Little was hostess at a very lovely movie party on Wednesday evening. Following the show the jolly crowd returned to the Little home at Sarsfield and dancing was enjoyed until midnight. A Surprise Marriage A marriage coming as quite a surprise to their many friends wan that of Miss Mary Annice MeManus and Mr. John Ernest Ross, Jr., which occurred on Sunday, August 24th. The ceremony was performed at the residence of Judge of Probate W. L. McDowell on Sunday evening in the presence of a few intimate friends of the young couple. The bride wore a becoming costume of pink georgette with accessories to match*. After the ceremony they left by motor for a honeymoon after which they will make their home on Haile street in this city. Mrs. Ross is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde H. MeManus, of Kershaw, and came to Camden about a year ago to make her home here, where she has made many friends. Mr. Ross is the son of Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Ross of this city, and holds a position with the Majestic Theatre. Mr. and Mrs. B. G. Sanders, who have been spending the summer in Saluda, N. C., will return home on Tuesday. From Mr. Ojfburn I want to thank my numerous friends who voted for me on Tuesday and by their ballots they have put me in a second primary for the office of county auditor. I feel very proud of the handsome vote priven me in ' Camden. If my friends will go to the polls on September 9 and vote, my election seems assured.
