Bartlett, was anchored four miles off Georgetown Thursday undergoing repairs. , AN ORDINANCE T ' ' ' ' ' To Ituiiie Supplies For The City of Camden, South Carolina, For The i Year 1930. j ?%/ ' ? Be it ordained by the Mayor and Aldermen of the City of Camden, ' S. (*., and by authority of the same, that the following taxes be, and the same are hereby levied, for the current year from the tirst of January, 1930, to the 31st day of December, 1930, both inclusive. Section One. A tax of thirty (30) mills on each and every dollar of real and personal property within the corporate limits of the City of Camden, S. C., from the first day of January, 1930. Section Two. That all able-bodied male persons between the ages of twenty-one and fifty years, residing within the corporate limits of the City of Camden, S. C., not exempt from road duty under the laws of the State shall work the 'streets, ways and all parks and public places under the direction of the Street Commissioner or other as may be appointed, for such space of time, not exceeding six (G) days in one year; Providing, that at the time of receiving such notice any person may pay to the said City of Camden, S. C., three ($3.00) dollars, commutation tax, which shall be received in lieu of the work and that person refusing to work, us aforesaid, on said streets or public places or to pay said commutation tax, shall, on conviction before the Recorder of the City of Camden, 3. C. bo fined not less than ten ($10.00) dollars, nor more than fifty ($50.00) dollars, or be imprisoned ' not leas than ten days nor more than twenty days and such imprisonment may at the discretion of the Recorder of the City of Camden, be accompanied with the additional requirement of hard labor upon the streets or public places of the said CIty of Camden. Section Three. The tax books, for the collection of the City taxea will be open in the office of the said K'ity ( lcrk and Treasurer, Camden, S. C., on the fifteenth day of September, iy30, and remain open each day, except Sunday, from 9 a. m, to 1 p. m., and from I) p. m. to 4:30 p, m., until the fifteenth day of October, 1030, inclusive. Section Four. That when the taxes and assessments or any portion thereof charged against any property or party on the duplicate for the current fiscal year, shall not be paid on or before the fifteenth day of October 1030, the City Clerk and Treasurer I shall proceed.to add a penalty of one I per cent on the City duplicate, and i t'.ie City Clerk and Treasurer shall collect the same; and if the said taxes and assessments and penalties are not paid on or before the fifteenth day of November ^hereafter, [ an additional penalty of one per cent shall be added by the City Clerk and ! Treasurer on the said duplicate and | collected by the said City Clerk and | Treasurer; That if said taxes, assessments and penalties are not paid on or before the fifteenth day of December, next thereafter, the City Clerk and Treasurer shall issue in the name of the City of Camden, S. C., a warrant or execution in duplicate against said" defaulting taxpayer in the City of Camden, S. C., signed by him in his official capacity, directed to the Chief of Police of the said , City of Camden or some member of the police force of the City of Cam. den. S. C., requiring him to levy the same by distress and sell so much of 1 the defaulting taxpayer's estate, real | or personal or both, as may be suf. ficient to satisfy the city taxes of I said defaulter, and specifying there jjn the aggregate amount of all his or her taxes. The City Clerk and Treasurer for every saicIj, . warrant issued shall have from atich defaulter, one ($1.00) dollar, and the Chief of Police or other police officer shall collect from such defaulter the following fees in the execution of his office, to wit: For serving such warrant, One ($100) Dollar; for advertising sale, twenty-five cents; for makiug sale and executing deed of conveyance and putting purchaser in possession, Three ($3.00) Dollars; for all sums levied as aforesaid, five per cent; and the Chief of Police is prohibited from demanding or collecting any greater sum therefor than is hereby allowed; neither the Chief of Police nor the City Clerk and Treasurer shall receive fees upon a nulla bona return. Section Five.
